Porsche Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo: exterior and interior

The Taycan is Porsche’s first all-electric model and shares its underpinnings with sister brand Audi's e-tron GT that was recently launched in the country. The Taycan, like the brand’s Panamera, is a four-door coupe and its design is in line with the Mission E concept from 2015. The Taycan features some familiar Porsche design touches, such as the headlamps with four LED DRL elements and a full-width lightbar at the rear. The Cross Turismo, meanwhile, is the estate version of the EV which brings with it an extra 30mm of ground clearance for mild off-road versatility. It also features mild body cladding which adds to its rugged appeal.

Inside, the tech-heavy cabin can be optioned with as many as four screens up front. Furthermore, the Taycan makes use of touch sensitive panels in place of physical buttons, lending the centre console a clean and uncluterred look. Although the Taycan is shorter than the Panamera, it is notable for having deep footwells for rear-seat passengers, made possible by ending the floor-mounted battery pack under the front seats. This allows for significantly boosted rear space. In terms of luggage space, the Turbo S has 82 litres in the front trunk, or ‘frunk’, and 400 litres in the boot.

Porsche Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo: features

In terms of equipment, the Taycan gets a configurable 16.8-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.9-inch infotainment screen and an 8.4-inch screen for the climate control below that. A fourth, 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger, can be optioned too.

Other features include wireless software updates, which can upgrade battery and charging performance, as well as infotainment functionality over the air.

Standard kit on the Taycan Turbo includes 20-inch alloys, adaptive air suspension that can lower the car by 22mm, Apple CarPlay, a Bose stereo system, matrix LED headlights and dual-zone climate control.

The Turbo S adds 21-inch wheels, upgraded brakes and 18-way electrically adjustable seats.

Porsche Taycan, Taycan Cross Tourismo: powertrain

Apart from the entry-level Taycan, which is rear-wheel drive (RWD) only, all-wheel drive is standard on all other Taycan models, with electric motors mounted to each axle. The RWD Taycan makes 408hp, while the Taycan 4S, with its dual-motor setup delivers up to 530hp with overboost activated. The 4S sprints from 0-100kph in a claimed 4.0sec. The Cross Turismo 4S makes 571hp on overboost and has a claimed top speed of 240kph.

The Turbo, meanwhile, in both body styles, develops up to 680hp and is claimed to do 0-100kph in 3.2sec and 3.3 sec for the sedan and estate, respectively. The top-rung Turbo S produces up to 761hp and 1050Nm, making it the most powerful EV on sale in the country. It is claimed to do the 0-100kph sprint in just 2.8sec (sedan) and 2.9sec (Cross Turismo).

Porsche Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo: charging and driving range

The Taycan RWD and 4S comes with a 79.2kWh battery pack while the Turbo and Turbo S are available solely with the 93.4kWh battery pack. However, the RWD and 4S can also be optioned with the larger 93.4kWh battery, which, in turn, boosts their output.

The entry-level Taycan RWD has a claimed WLTP range of up to 484km, while the Cross Turismo is said to do 456km on a single charge. It can be charged at 350kW, with the battery filling up from 5 percent to 80 percent in as little as in 20 minutes. A standard 11kW AC charger takes up to nine hours for the same, while a 50kW DC fast charger accomplishes the task in about 93 minutes.

Porsche Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo: competition

The Porsche Taycan sedan rivals its Audi sibling, the e-tron GT, which is priced from Rs 1.80 crore to Rs 2.05 crore (ex-showroom-India). The Taycan Cross Turismo, meanwhile, has no direct competitors and instead will face competition from electric luxury SUVs like the Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback, Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes EQC.
