Rimac Nevera R revealed, claims world’s quickest 0-100kph time

Rimac has revealed the Nevera R, which it claims is the fastest-accelerating road car yet. The company says it can sprint from 0-100kph in just 1.81 seconds and 0-300kph in 8.66 seconds.

Compared to the standard Nevera, which has a total output of 1,914hp, the R makes a staggering 2,017hp. This figure is only surpassed by the 2,300hp Koenigsegg Gemera hybrid. Rimac says great focus was also placed on making the R better handling and more agile than its grand tourer sibling.

The Nevera R looks sleeker than the standard EV and comes with a lowered stance along with a host of aero elements. Our sister publication, Autocar UK, reports that the model has been launched to attract buyers back to electric hypercars, after boss Mate Rimac revealed that the brand had yet to sell all 150 examples of the Nevera, even three years after its launch. The Nevera R will have a limited run of 40 units, which will be part of the same production run.
 
He said this slump was down to “the top end of the sector wanting to differentiate themselves” with combustion-powered cars as electrification becomes more mainstream.

Rimac Nevera R: what else is different?

Upgrades for the Nevera R include a next-generation all-wheel torque-vectoring tech, which has been tuned to suit its new Michelin Cup 2 tyres. The brand also says that the steering rack has been revised to deliver sharper responses and crisper feedback. This is claimed to reduce maximum understeer by 10 percent and increase maximum lateral grip by 5 percent. 

A new fixed rear wing, combined with a new large front diffuser, helps to increase maximum downforce by 15 percent and maximum aerodynamic efficiency by 10 percent, enabling sharper, faster cornering. To compensate for the extra power over the standard Nevera, the R also gets carbon-ceramic EVO2 brakes. As a result of these measures, Rimac says the R “sets a new benchmark” for “driving excitement” on twisty roads. 

The R retains the same 108kWh battery as its sibling, which was good for as much as 400km in the standard model. The Croatian brand has yet to confirm official range figures. 

Launched in international markets exclusively in Nebula green, the R is due to enter limited production later this year. Each will cost about Rs 21.4 crore before customisation and personalisation options are ticked. For reference, the standard Nevera is priced at about Rs 18.7 crore.
