Tata Motors has silently introduced a minor update of the Tiago NRG cross-hatchback. First launched in September 2018, the NRG was initially available with an 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol or a 70hp, 1.05-litre diesel engine, both coupled to a manual transmission as standard. The update sees the addition of a new petrol-AMT variant priced at Rs 6.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which translates into a premium of Rs 45,000 over its manual counterpart.

In essence, the NRG is a rugged-looking version of the standard Tiago with additional body cladding, faux skid plates, roof rails, and higher ground clearance (180mm on the NRG versus 170mm on the regular car). As part of the kit, it gets reflector headlamps, 14-inch steel rims with wheel covers, contrast stitch fabric upholstery, manual air-con, power assisted and tilt adjustable steering, height-adjustable driver seat, remote locking, four power windows and electrically adjustable wing mirrors. What will surely go down well with prospective customers is the introduction of a greater set of popular features, like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system (which replaces the older 5.0-inch unit), replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and auto-fold wing mirrors.

Priced at Rs 5.70-6.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Tata Tiago NRG takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT in our market.
