As exclusively reported by us earlier, Toyota will launch the Yaris in India on May 18 and take on the likes of the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna in the local market. Toyota dealers are now officially accepting bookings for the new sedan with the booking amount set at Rs 50,000.

The Yaris will only be available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that can be ordered with either a six-speed manual or a seven-step CVT automatic gearbox.

A leaked order guide for the new Yaris reveals that the car will be offered in three variants for the manual car and four variants, including a top-spec VX, in auto form, with the talking point being the seven airbags that are standard across the range. Buyers will also have the option to choose from seven paint shades.

Manufactured at Toyota’s plant in Karnataka, the heavily localised Yaris is expected to be priced between Rs 8.4-13.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Should the Yaris go on sale at this price point, it will comfortably undercut one of its key rivals, the Honda City. The suspense surrounding Toyota’s pricing strategy will be over at the Yaris’ India launch on May 18.

Also note that we will go live with our first drive impression of Toyota's new mid-size sedan at 8pm on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Stay tuned.
