Volkswagen has updated both the Taigun SUV and the Virtus sedan with six airbags as standard across the range. Surprisingly, this has not come with a corresponding hike in price. This closely follows Skoda also making six airbags standard on both the Kushaq and Slavia.

    2. Both models remain mechanically unchanged as well

    Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus safety update

Until now, both the Taigun and the Virtus came fitted with six airbags on the top-spec Topline trims and their respective GT variants. With this update, it will also be available on the Comfortline and Highline trims, as well as on special edition models like the GT Edge, Sport and Sound Edition.

While Skoda marginally hiked prices of both models with the update, Volkswagen has kept the prices unchanged. In fact, the entry-level Comfortline trim of the Taigun is available at a special offer price of Rs 10.99 lakh, which is Rs 70,000 lower than normal; this offer is applicable for a limited time period only. Prices for the Taigun top out at Rs 20 lakh. Meanwhile, the Virtus is priced between Rs 11.56 lakh and Rs 19.41 lakh.

Both the Taigun and Slavia are 5-star rated cars by Global NCAP, having secured that rating in just their dual airbag-spec. Other safety features on both models include ESC as standard, a multi-collision braking system, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), brake assist and traction control.

Among the Taigun’s rivals, the CretaSeltosElevate and Kushaq are equipped with six airbags as standard, but the Grand VitaraHyryder and Astor are not. Among the Virtus’ rivals, the VernaCity and Slavia all come with six airbags as standard, but the Ciaz doesn’t.

The company has also announced that it has sold over 1 lakh units of the Taigun and Virtus combined; the SUV contributed 61 percent. Moreover, approximately 40 percent of total sales of both models are of the higher-spec GT variants, says Volkswagen.
