The latest A6 has a familiar silhouette but the styling is new-age Audi. The large front grille gives the A6 an imposing face and the sharp cuts and pronounced creases on the body also lend it an athletic look. You see the latest of Audi in the A6’s interior too. The centrepiece of the dashboard is the dual touchscreen arrangement. While the screens are cutting-edge and provide haptic feedback too, the setup does take getting used to and, at times, you’d wish Audi had provided physical buttons for the basic controls. No complaints for cabin quality which is up there with the best in class. Front seat comfort is also really good and the rear seat offers great support as well. Legroom at the back isn’t at class-best levels but you really can’t complain about the space on offer either. As an added plus, the Audi gets a large boot making it well-suited to airport pick and drop duties.
India only gets the A6 in 45 TFSI form. 45 TFSI is Audi-speak for a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 245hp and 370Nm, that are good numbers for this class of car. Performance is good but the highlight of the engine is its refinement. You only hear the engine at max attack. The A6’s 7-speed dual-clutch auto is diligent but does feel a bit relaxed on sporty drives.
The latest A6 makes use of steel springs rather than its predecessor’s air suspension setup. But you really can’t hold that against the new A6 because ride comfort is really good. There’s ample ground clearance, low-speed bump absorption is impressive and the A6 also feels composed at high speeds. Purists will miss Quattro all-wheel drive but average buyers will be content with the A6’s front-wheel drive arrangement. Sure, the steering isn’t riveting but the A6 is easy to steer and changes direction with poise at high speeds.
