New car, SUV launches in August 2024

    A host of new cars and SUVs across various segments are lined up for launch in August. The month will see at least eight new car, SUV launches, including mass-market and luxury models. Here is a list of the new vehicles that will go on sale next month.

    Nissan X-Trail

    Nissan India will double its portfolio on August 1, with the introduction of the flagship X-Trail SUV. It will be brought in as a CBU and rival the Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Fortuner. The 7-seater SUV gets a 1.5-litre three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that features variable compression, and makes 163hp and 300Nm. The power is fed to the front wheels only through a CVT automatic gearbox. Prices could start from around Rs 40 lakh-45 lakh (ex-showroom).

    Tata Curvv

    Tata Motors is all set to launch the Curvv in India on August 7. It will be one of the first mass-market coupe-SUVs here, and will serve as an alternative to midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, among others. It will be available with three engine options: a 120hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, a 115hp, 1.5-litre diesel, and a new 125hp, 225Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol. A dual-clutch automatic option will be offered on all three engines.

    Tata Curvv EV

    The Curvv will also have a fully electric version that will be offered with two battery packs: a new 55kWh unit and the 40.5kWh unit from Nexon LR. The Curvv EV could offer a range of up to 550km, and will get the same equipment list as the Curvv: a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a fully digital driver’s display, a segment-first powered tailgate with gesture function, a panoramic sunroof, reclining rear seat, ventilated front seats, and ADAS Level 2.

    Mahindra Thar Roxx

    The Thar 5-door will officially be called the Mahindra Thar Roxx when it goes on sale on August 15. Apart from a host of design changes, a longer wheelbase and an extra seat of doors, the Thar Roxx will get a host of new features over the Thar 3-door, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, LED projector headlamps, a 360-degree camera, as well as ADAS. It will carry over all existing engine options from the Thar 3-door, but they could likely be in a higher state of tune.

    Citroen Basalt

    The Citroen Basalt will join the Tata Curvv in the coupe-SUV segment. The global debut of the production-ready version will take place on August 2, followed by a launch soon after. It will carry over the same dashboard as the C3 Aircross, but get additional features such as an auto climate control with toggle switches, contoured rear headrests, and a larger front armrest with storage. Powering the Basalt will be a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 110hp and 205Nm of torque with both manual and automatic transmission options.

    Mercedes GLC 43 4Matic Coupe

    Unveiled last September, the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe is finally headed to India with a launch set to take place on August 8. It gets the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid tech as the AMG C 43. On the GLC, this powertrain produces 421hp and 500Nm for a 0-100kph sprint in 4.7 seconds. Besides the coupe-like rear end, the GLC 43 features typical AMG design cues inside and out. The GLC 43 4Matic Coupe could cost over Rs 1 crore.

    Mercedes CLE Cabriolet

    The CLE Cabriolet will be launched alongside the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe on August 8. It will arrive as a full import with 2+2 seating as standard. While Mercedes-Benz hasn’t confirmed what powertrain the CLE will get in India, internationally, the range starts with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s available in two states of tune. Prices are expected to be north of Rs 1 crore.

    Lamborghini Urus SE

    The Lamborghini Urus SE will be launched in India on August 9. Along with external styling changes over the standard Urus, the SE also gets a new 12.3-inch central touchscreen, along with new dashboard panels and redesigned AC vents. It gets a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine mated to a plug-in hybrid system that uses a 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The total output stands at 800hp and 950Nm torque, making it the most powerful version of the SUV. The SE will be the range-topping trim of the Urus line-up.
