Kawasaki India has announced that it will extend the warranty on its motorcycles that lapse between March 1, 2020 and April 30, 2020. In these cases, the warranty has been extended to June 30, 2020.
This decision was taken in light of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The nationwide lockdown, which has now extended to May 3, 2020, has made it impossible for owners to avail of this service, since vehicular movement is severely restricted.
The company joins the likes of KTM, Yamaha, TVS, Honda and Bajaj, who have also extended their warranty deadlines.
In other news, the Indian government is considering reopening industrial activities, including manufacturing, in areas other than COVID-19 hotspots. The automobile manufacturing sector, however, does not fall in the category of industries allowed to operate during the lockdown. While two-wheeler manufacturers, including Kawasaki, have suspended operations for now, it's crucial for the auto sector that the government allow for vehicle manufacturing to resume soon. This will help improve economic activity in the sector and generate liquidity, especially since the industry is in the middle of battling a huge slowdown.
