Honda has officially increased prices of its all-new, recently launched compact sedan, the Amaze. The model was launched in May 2018 at an introductory price of Rs 5.60 lakh for the base petrol and Rs 9 lakh for the higher-spec diesel-automatic.

The base petrol model, the Amaze E MT is now priced at Rs 5.81 lakh, while the V CVT diesel variant now costs Rs 9.11 lakh. The price of the base petrol trim has increased by Rs 21,000 while the base diesel is now Rs 31,000 more. Besides the base E variants, prices have been hiked by Rs 11,000 across the board. See the table below for a variant-wise price change.

This means lower trims of the Amaze are now dearer than its key competitor, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. However, the top-spec trims seem to be slightly lower than the Maruti, which is priced between Rs 5.56 lakh and Rs 9.43 lakh. Other rivals to the Amaze include the Hyundai Xcent (Rs 5.61-8.61 lakh), Volkswagen Ameo (Rs 5.62-9.99 lakh) and the soon to-be facelifted Ford Figo Aspire (Rs 5.82-8.79 lakh).

The Amaze compact sedan has been quite a hit for the Japanese brand. It helped Honda record its highest monthly sales in India and contributed 51 percent to its July 2018 sales. The automatic variants of the Amaze have also seen a significant demand, with the sales split between manuals and automatic pegged at 74:26.

The last week of July, however, saw Honda issue a recall for the Amaze to rectify a potential issue with the electric power steering. This was said to affect 7,290 units of the second-gen compact sedan made between April 17 and May 24, 2018.
