BMW has hiked the prices of the new X1's diesel variant – the X1 sDrive 18d M Sport – by Rs 3 lakh, and it now retails for Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). There is, however, no change in the price of the petrol-powered X1.

    1. BMW X1 sDrive 18d M Sport is priced at Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom)
    2. Prices for the petrol-powered BMW X1 remain unchanged
    3. Customers expecting deliveries in April or May will not be affected by price hike

The German carmaker also mentioned that the customers who booked the X1 at introductory prices are expecting deliveries in April and May. BMW X1 exterior and interior

The third-generation X1 was launched at the third BMW Joytown festival in January. It is now larger than its predecessor in all dimensions, being 53mm longer, 24mm wider and 44mm taller, with its wheelbase 22mm longer.

It now wears a new, slightly larger grille with the bumper getting more angular creases with blacked-out inserts. The headlamps are sleeker than before and feature BMW’s new inverted L-shaped Daytime Running Lamps. In profile, the X1 has flush-fitting door handles and rides on 18-inch alloys. At the back, the SUV gets L-shaped wraparound LED tail-lamps and a sculpted tail gate.

The biggest change in the X1 is the new curved display that is similar to the one seen on the BMW X7, 7 series and 3 Series Gran Limousine. The floating centre console has houses few physical buttons and the slim AC vents are now neatly integrated into the dash.

    BMW X1 powertrain and performance

The new X1 is available with petrol (sDrive 18i) and diesel (sDrive 18d) engine options in India. The former is available in the xLine trim, while the latter is available with the M Sport trim. The petrol is a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder unit producing 136hp and 230Nm of torque, whereas the diesel is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit churning out 150hp and 360Nm of torque. While the petrol engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the diesel is mated to a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

BMW claims the new petrol X1 can manage a 0-100kph time of 9.2 seconds and the diesel version can manage the sprint in 8.9 seconds. The petrol X1 returns an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 16.13kpl, while the diesel offers 20.37kpl.

    BMW X1 rivals

The X1 rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLA (Rs 48.50 lakh-52.70 lakh), the Audi Q3 (Rs 44.89 lakh-50.39 lakh), the Volvo XC40 (Rs 46.40 lakh) and the Mini Countryman (Rs 47.40 lakh) in the entry-level luxury SUV segment.
