Skoda Octavia RS245: What’s to know?
The Octavia RS245 was the second RS model based on the previous-gen Octavia with the carmaker having offered the RS230 back in 2017. Compared to the 2017 model, the RS245 features larger wheels and upgraded mechanicals including revised engine components – bumping up power to 245hp and 370Nm, a new dual-clutch gearbox and a new electronically controlled limited slip differential capable of channelling up to 100 percent power to the front wheel with more traction.
These upgrades though have come at a cost with the RS245 priced at about Rs 11 lakhs higher than its predecessor at Rs 35.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Benefits on the Skoda Octavia RS245
Introduced at the Auto Expo last year, the RS245 was reported to be sold out by April 2020 as far as dealer dispatches go, however, as it currently stands there still remain some unsold units left with dealers likely due to order cancellations owing to the pandemic-induced lockdowns and the slowdown that followed. Dealers are currently offering discounts and benefits worth as much as Rs 8 lakhs on these unsold models in a bid to clear inventory.
While pricey, the RS245 is a car for driving enthusiasts with its sharp handling and sportscar-like performance while still offering space and practicality enough for everyday use and a long equipment list as well. Adding to that is its limited numbers which adds to the exclusivity factor. The RS245 also has no direct rivals with any of the standard Octavia’s rivals offered in a performance derivative in India.
New Skoda Octavia
While the Octavia RS245 is on its way out of the market, the next-gen Octavia is set to arrive in India this month. Based on the updated MQB platform, the new Octavia, like it’s other siblings in India, will be available solely with a petrol engine. The unit in question will be a 190hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mill – as in the larger Superb – and will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Expect the new Octavia prices to be in the range of Rs 18-24 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom). The next-gen executive sedan will go up against the Hyundai Elantra which is currently the only model on sale in the segment.
