Jeep India will soon be expanding the Compass SUV line-up – the brand will introduce more affordable, 2WD variants of the Compass diesel-automatic, with a price announcement slated for September 16. Along with introducing new diesel 2WD automatic variants, the entire Jeep Compass line-up will be updated with new grille and alloy wheel designs.
- Compass 2WD AT to be sold in five trims
- To be priced between Rs 27-33 lakh, on-road
- Compass range to get new grille and wheel design
The Jeep Compass range in India is currently diesel-only, with the automatic gearbox limited to just the 4x4 variants. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine had been shelved due to the BS6 Stage II norms. This also pushed up the starting price of the Compass, more so for the automatic variants, with prices starting upwards of Rs 29 lakh (ex-showroom).
Adding an affordable 2WD variant to the diesel-AT line-up will definitely make the SUV more accessible, especially to customers looking for the convenience of an automatic gearbox, but not wanting the 4x4 hardware. Meanwhile, the Compass petrol is also expected to make a comeback in the future.
Jeep Compass diesel 2WD automatic to get five trims
The updated Compass will be sold in five trims – Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S. The Sport trim will continue to be the entry-spec model and will be offered only with the diesel-manual powertrain.
Next, a new Compass Longitude trim will join the line-up that'll get both, the 2WD manual, along with the 9-speed automatic gearbox, making this the new entry-point to Compass automatic range. Sources tell us that this variant will be priced at around Rs 27 lakh, on-road. The features list for this variant has not been revealed yet.
This will be followed by the Longitude+ trim, which will come equipped with a panoramic sunroof and a wireless charger, in addition to all the features available on the Longitude trim. Above that, will be the Limited trim that'll also have a new Black Shark edition, which gets an all-black interior and black alloy wheels.
Finally, the Model S will continue to sit at the top of the line-up, and will come in the 2WD automatic form, along with the existing 4WD automatic variants. Additionally, all trims will get a new design for the alloy wheels, while a new chrome grille will be available on the Limited and Model S trims.
