Mahindra has announced that the brand will take the covers off its first-ever born-electric concepts on August 15, 2022. The event, however, will take place at the brand’s newly opened design studio in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, which has been instrumental in designing these concepts.
The announcement is in keeping with Mahindra's recent trend of unveiling a product around Independence Day. On August 15, 2020, Mahindra had presented the new Thar, and on August 14, 2021, the new XUV700 had been put on sale; and both mainstream products have brought in a large chunk of sales for the brand.
- Expected to be three all-electric SUV concepts
- Could be shown in India at the upcoming Auto Expo 2022
- Unveiling to take place in Mahindra's design studio in UK
In February this year, Mahindra revealed the first teaser image of its upcoming born electric SUV line-up of three SUVs. Another teaser released in March this year previewed the interior of these concepts.
The models get distinctive C-shaped LED signatures at the front and rear, with each model having a slight variation. Mahindra revealed a minimalistic theme for all three models, along with a dual-screen set-up for instrumentation and infotainment duties coupled with a rotary dial in the centre console.
These cars would be a compact SUV, a midsize SUV and an SUV coupe, and being “Born Electric” vehicles, they are not going to be EV derivatives of ICE-powered models, but will be all-new models. As we've reported earlier, the SUV Coupe concept would be a preview for the XUV900 coupe, the midsize SUV could sit alongside the XUV700, and the smallest SUV concept could be a preview for an all-new compact electric SUV concept.
Expect Mahindra to reveal more details about these upcoming electric SUV concepts closer to their global unveiling. The concepts could be shown at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023.
As far as launches go, the all-new Scorpio will go on sale on June 27 this year and Mahindra’s first mainstream all-electric SUV, the XUV400 EV, is expected to launch by early 2023.
