    • Scorpio Classic gets a new turbo-diesel engine
    • No AWD system, automatic gearbox on offer
    • Mildly refreshed design inside and out

    Mahindra Scorpio Classic: powertrain

The new Mahindra Scorpio Classic gets an updated 132hp, 300Nm, 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, Gen 2 mHawk engine that delivers the power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. The updated engine is 55kg lighter than before and Mahindra claims that its fuel economy has also improved by 14 percent.

    Mahindra Scorpio Classic: exterior design

The design of the new Scorpio Classic is very similar to the outgoing Scorpio. The changes to the new model include a refreshed front grille with the new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo, a redesigned front bumper with a faux skid plate, updated foglamp housing, dual-tone cladding on either side and a redesigned tail-lamp. Mahindra is also offering a dual-tone finish for the existing 17-inch alloy wheels.

Mahindra Scorpio Classic: interior and features

Even on the inside, Mahindra has not changed much. There is, however, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with phone mirroring capabilities; the dashboard and centre console now get wooden inserts, and the steering wheel has a leatherette finish. Unlike the older model, which had a black and grey interior, the Scorpio Classic gets a black and beige interior.

The Scorpio Classic is being offered with three seating layouts – two 7-seaters and one 9-seater. While one 7-seater option gets captain seats in the second row with a bench in the third row, the other gets a bench in the second row and two jump seats in the third row. The 9-seater, meanwhile, gets a bench in the second row and jump seats for four in the rear.

In terms of features, it gets cruise control, rear parking sensors, AC vents for the second row and steering mounted controls. For safety, Mahindra is currently offering the SUV with two airbags, but it has confirmed that it will add more in the future to comply with the new norms.
