The Scorpio N Carbon Edition has been launched, with prices starting at Rs 19.19 lakh. This new version is available only for the top two trims – Z8 and Z8L – of this Mahindra off-roader and gives an all-black treatment to the exterior and interior.

    1. The SUV’s Carbon Edition comes only in a 7-seat configuration
    2. It’s a direct rival to the Tata Harrier Dark Edition

As we have previously reported, the Scorpio N with the Carbon Edition reduces the use of chrome around the body. For instance, the otherwise chrome door handles and window side moulding get a blacked-out finish; even the alloy wheels (up to 18 inches) and roof rails follow a similar dark theme. Note that the Carbon Edition comes in a single paint colour called Stealth Black.

The same pitch-black philosophy is seen inside, with the dashboard and leatherette seats (these are tan in the standard Scropio N). Even the roof liner and door trims have been blackened in this edition, which is available only in the 7-seat format. The features list is identical: an 8-inch touchscreen, a sunroof, multiple drive modes, dual-zone AC, 12 speakers and six airbags.

The new Scorpio N Carbon Edition continues with the 203hp, 2-litre turbo petrol or the 175hp, 2.2-litre diesel mill mated to a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. The four-wheel drive (4WD) can only be had with the diesel engine.

    Direct rival to Harrier Dark

The Rs 20,000 premium for the Scorpio N Carbon Edition is standard for all Z8 and Z8L variants, priced from Rs 19.19 lakh to Rs 24.89 lakh. These include petrol and diesel engines with either manual or automatic transmissions. The latest prices also validate Autocar India’s estimates made in our report from last week.

Compared to the Tata Harrier, whose Dark Edition ranges from Rs 19.14 lakh for the mid-spec Pure + S and goes up to Rs 26.24 lakh for the range-topping Fearless +, Mahindra’s Carbon Edition SUV is aggressively priced at both ends and offers 4WD as well. Further, the Harrier’s recently launched Stealth Edition is sold only in the Fearless + trim and costs Rs 25,000 more than its Dark equivalent.
