Mahindra XUV400 EV: design cues
The teaser shows the upcoming XUV400 EV’s front end featuring an X-patterned bronze and black design for the closed-off grille and the new Twin Peaks logo which is also finished in bronze.
The front end looks very similar to the eXUV300 concept that was shown at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. It features sleeker rectangular headlamps but does not get the drop-down LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) seen on other XUV models. Instead, the XUV400’s DRLs are integrated within the headlamp cluster.
The XUV400 was recently spotted testing and from the photos, one can make out the sharply contoured front bumper with triangular fog lamp housings. In profile, there’s not much to distinguish the XUV400 from the XUV300 as the former gets a similar glasshouse and character lines. At the rear, the car will get a different tailgate design, new wraparound tail-lamps and a more pronounced license plate housing.
Mahindra XUV400 EV: powertrain and features
Mahindra is yet to reveal the details of the XUV400’s powertrain options, but, according to sources, the SUV is likely to come equipped with a single front-wheel drive electric motor making around 150hp and two battery pack options.
In terms of features, the XUV400 will have an updated infotainment system with EV-specific data, and it could also get the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
Mahindra XUV400 EV: rivals and positioning
The XUV400 will kickstart Mahindra’s electric SUV strategy in India, and will be followed by the first of its born-electric SUVs towards the end of 2024. The XUV400 EV will go up against the Tata Nexon EV, which currently has no direct rivals besides the slightly more expensive MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.
