Mercedes-Maybach has taken the wraps off its first all-electric SUV, the Maybach EQS that will be shown to the public for the first time at this week’s Shanghai Auto Show 2023. The Maybach EQS is based on the EQS EV SUV from Mercedes, just like the petrol-powered Maybach GLS 600 SUV is based on the standard Mercedes-Benz GLS.

Mercedes Maybach EQS SUV exterior details
As far as design differences go, the Maybach EQS, just like other Maybach models, gets added chrome bits on the outside and multiple Maybach logos – the three-star emblem is only on the hood. It gets the same black panel on the nose with vertical chrome strips on the grille that give it a 3D look.
The large black panel – which is closed – houses the radar sensors for ADAS and other tech bits. The front bumper also gets chrome elements, while the upper part of the grille has “Maybach” lettering finished in chrome. This neatly blends with the connected LED strip that merges with the headlamps on each side. The new Maybach Digital Light feature has a welcome and goodbye function with its unique Light show, according to the brand.
Moving on to the sides, the Maybach EQS SUV looks similar to its non-Maybach counterpart, however, it does get multiple Maybach touches like chrome surrounds on the windows and between the doors, a Maybach logo on the D-pillar and EQS embossed in the front window area. Similar to the standard EQS SUV, the Maybach EQS also gets additional body cladding in gloss black finish. Wheel choices include 21- or 22-inch alloy and forged wheels with Maybach lettering. The SUV also gets factory-installed running boards with illumination that's finished in anodised aluminium.
At the back, the uniquely patterned tail-lamps get a connecting LED strip which also includes Maybach lettering. There are also chrome trim elements on the tailgate, on the rear apron and the spoiler lip. It also gets optional dual-tone paint shade options with a filigree pinstripe. Five color combinations – high-tech silver/obsidian black, high-tech silver/nautical blue, obsidian black/selenite grey, obsidian black/kalahari gold and velvet brown/onyx black.
Mercedes Maybach EQS SUV interior and features
On the inside, the Maybach EQS SUV features a similar looking dashboard layout as the standard EQS SUV, however, that’s where the similarities end. It gets three different screens and all come with Maybach-specific graphics in order to set it apart from the regular EQS SUV. Mercedes-Maybach says the overall visual appearance is specially designed for the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV in an elegant deep blue shade. The numerous exclusive features include the animated display of the instrument cluster in Maybach mode.
The rear seat infotainment consists of two 11.6-inch displays on the front seat backrests. With the standard MBUX set-up, content can be shared on the various displays. The Maybach EQS SUV also comes with the MBUX rear tablet, which can also be used outside the vehicle. Additionally, the MBUX Interior Assist is also standard on the Maybach EQS SUV. This feature, with the help of cameras, can recognise the operating requests of the passengers from body and hand movements and carry out the corresponding functions.
The seats come standard with Nappa leather in multiple shade options, with an exclusive Manufaktur Nappa leather option. Mercedes-Maybach says the upholstery colours and natural wood finishes are attained sustainably. The carmaker has also introduced vegetable-tanned Nappa leather on the Maybach EQS SUV. All seats get massage function and ventilation, with the optional chauffeur package also getting the calf massage feature.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV gets full interior ambient lighting package as standard with 253 LEDs and 64 selectable colours, including some Maybach specific schemes consisting of Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow. The SUV also gets a 15-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system that gets special acoustic foams in select body shell panels and the underbody.
Mercedes Maybach EQS SUV powertrain and suspension
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV makes 658hp and 950Nm, and gets 4MATIC as standard. It has a range of up to 600km (WLTP), 0-100kph comes at a claimed 4.4 seconds and it has a top speed of 210kph. In comparison, the top-spec EQS 580 4 Matic SUV comes with a power output of 544hp and range of up to 456km.
The Maybach EQS SUV gets the adaptable air suspension system that can be raised by up to 35mm, with a special Maybach driving program. It also gets rear-wheel steering with a steering angle of 4.5 degrees as standard. The rear wheels can also be turned up to 10 degrees, thus enabling a turning circle of 11 metres, instead of 11.9 metres. Additionally, the Maybach EQS SUV gets drive modes that include eco, sport, offroad and individual modes, and the Maybach mode that replaces the comfort setting in the standard EQS SUV.
Mercedes Maybach EQS SUV will it come to India?
While there is no official confirmation on the Maybach SUV's launch in India, we expect it to come sometime in the distant future.

Ugly looking SUV from the front. Exterior design needs to improve a lot. Looks like the front is designed by a high-school drop out.
