Mercedes-Benz has introduced a range of updates for the S-Class sedan in India, bringing some new features and a very crucial mechanical update. The S-Class starts at Rs 1.77 crore (ex-showroom) for the S 350d variant, but it’s the higher-spec S 450 4Matic and S 580 Maybach variants that have been refreshed.
Mercedes S 450 4Matic: what’s new?
The most notable update on the S 450 4Matic is the addition of more airbags – there are new seatbelt airbags for the rear passengers and a new centre airbag between the driver and front passenger seats. It also gets Mercedes’ Energizing air purification package with a dedicated air quality menu in the MBUX display.
Mercedes has also introduced two new exterior and interior colour packages – Emerald Green Metallic with Sienna Brown/Black interior and Manufaktur Rubellite Red Metallic with Macchiato Beige/Magma Grey interior. With this update, the S 450 4Matic is now priced at 1.88 crore (ex-showroom), up by Rs 1.45 lakh over its predecessor.
Mercedes S 580 Maybach: what’s new?
The more crucial update comes on the S 580 Maybach variant, which now gets rear-axle steering up to 10 degrees. Mercedes initially offered the rear-axle steering on the launch edition of the S-Class when it went on sale in 2021, but later removed it when they began local assembly. It, however, continued to be available on the fully imported S 680 Maybach version. Given the S-Class’ gigantic proportions, this will surely be a welcome addition for buyers.
Other updates include the addition of a centre airbag between the front seats and the new Manufaktur Rubellite Red Metallic exterior paint shade with Maybach-specific Macchiato Beige/Magma Grey interior. The S 580 Maybach is now priced at 2.74 crore (ex-showroom), which is Rs 2.05 lakh more than before.
