MG Motor India has announced prices for the entire line-up of the Comet EV over a week after it revealed its starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The Comet EV is available in three trims – Pace, Play and Plush – and the prices go up to Rs 9.98 lakh for the top-spec model (ex-showroom).
Bookings for the Comet EV will commence on May 15, and deliveries will begin in a phased manner from May 22. Do note that these are introductory prices applicable only to the first 5,000 customers.

MG Comet EV rivals
Positioned as a strict two-door urban commuter, the Comet EV is in a niche of its own, but as an entry-level electric hatchback, it will inevitably be compared with the likes of the Tata Tiago EV (Rs 8.69 lakh-12.04 lakh) and the Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.50 lakh-12.43 lakh), both of which offer a lot more practicality, versatility and range.
The Comet EV's starting price undercuts the Tiago EV by Rs 71,000, while at the top-end, the difference goes up considerably by Rs 2.07 lakh. Meanwhile, prices for the Comet EV and eC3 do not overlap at all, with starting price of the Citroen being Rs 1.52 lakh more expensive than the top-end Comet. As it stands, the Comet EV is the most affordable electric vehicle in the country right now.
MG Comet EV powertrain, battery and dimensions
MG has equipped the Comet EV with a 17.3kWh battery that's IP67-rated for water and dust resistance and gets an ARAI-certified range of 230km. MG is offering a 3.3kW onboard charger that takes seven hours to fully charge the battery, but there's no DC charging facility with the Comet EV. MG has sourced the battery from Tata AutoComp. The Comet gets a single electric motor on the rear axle that develops 42hp and 110Nm of torque. MG claims a running cost of Rs 519 per month for the Comet EV.
MG Comet EV exterior design
Looking like nothing else on our roads, the Comet EV has a boxy design language with interesting details such as a full-width LED light bar along with a chrome strip connecting the two wing mirrors or the asymmetrical window line with a vertical rear window. At the rear, too, the Comet EV gets a full-width light bar, while the 12-inch wheels that it rides on are the smallest wheel size on any vehicle available in the market currently.
The charging port for the Comet EV is placed at the front, under the light bar, and its flap houses an illuminated MG logo. The EV is available in five colours with multiple graphics packages categorised under sticker styles and lit packs.
The Comet EV measures 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width and 1,640mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,010mm. To put its size into perspective, the next smallest car available in India, the Alto K10, is 556mm longer than the Comet EV.
MG Comet EV interior and features
The Comet EV has a white and grey interior dominated by two 10.25-inch screens – one for the infotainment system and the other for the digital instrument cluster. The front passenger seat has a one-touch tumble and fold feature, while the rear seats get a 50:50 split. The Comet also features a rotary drive selector in between the front seats.
The Comet EV gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual AC controls, keyless entry, iPod-style steering-mounted controls, three USB ports and over 55 connected features. Safety features on the Comet EV include ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reverse camera and sensors as well as dual front airbags.
