    Next-gen Mercedes CLA: what’s new?

The next-gen CLA has been caught testing in southern Europe, thanks to our friends at Motor.es. While the sedan is still wrapped in camouflage, the latest spy shots reveal the sharp headlights and the new wraparound tail lamps more clearly. The front lights feature a new illuminated star LED pattern inside, similar to those on newer Mercedes models like the upcoming E-Class.

We expect the new CLA to be equipped with a three-screen display, similar to what is available on more expensive Mercedes models, at least as an optional extra. The prototype also gets a glass roof, however, the production version will likely get a panoramic sunroof. The CLA will be based on the MMA platform, which will underpin future A-Class, GLA, and GLB.

Next-gen Mercedes CLA: powertrain, launch details

The new-gen CLA will be available with petrol and non-plug-in hybrid powertrain options only. No diesel engine will be on offer with the entry-level luxury sedan. Additionally, the sedan will later receive a fully electric powertrain, as previewed with the CLA concept about a year ago. The electric versions will be available with single- or dual-motor powertrains, supported by different battery options, providing ranges of up to 750km.

The first-gen CLA was discontinued and replaced with the A-Class Limousine as the brand's entry-level sedan. We do not expect the next-gen CLA to be brought to India either, considering the cannibalisation with the A-Class. The global launch is expected next year.
