The new MG 4 hatchback has been revealed by a regulator in China, giving us details of the new-gen EV’s exterior, and some of its specifications. That a new generation comes just two years after the MG 4 was first unveiled is a bit of a surprise, but the hatchback is popular in Europe, even if sales in its home market are poor. The outgoing MG 4 was showcased at Auto Expo 2023, as the electric hatchback was under evaluation for our market.

The new-gen MG 4 is larger than its predecessor, measuring 4,395mm long, 1,842mm wide, and 1,551mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. These dimensions make it 108mm longer, 4mm wider and 35mm taller; the wheelbase is 45mm longer, too. In fact, the new MG 4 is larger than the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the MG Windsor on nearly every metric, making it a large hatchback. Rivals in European markets include the Volkswagen ID.3.
Some design elements taken from Cyberster

Compared to the EV showcased at Auto Expo 2023, the all-new hatchback features a redesigned front-end, new doors and rear end, and a larger greenhouse. MG has used some elements from the soon-to-launch Cyberster on the new 4, such as the thinner headlight units, the aggressive honeycomb intake on the front bumper, and the arrow-shaped LED signatures in the tail-lights.
New MG 4 range, battery, powertrain
New MG 4 has less power than its predecessor

While the new MG 4’s battery specifications have yet to be revealed, the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) setup will be supplied by Rept Battero Energy. The battery powers a 163hp motor that is said to help the electric hatchback achieve a 160kph top speed.
It should be noted that its predecessor's entry-level form had a 51kWh (net) battery that had a WLTP range of 350km. It was powered by a 170hp, 250Nm rear axle-mounted motor. Select markets like the UK also had 64kWh and 77kWh versions on sale, along with a 435hp AWD version with motors on each axle.
Neither MG Motor, nor the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have revealed the new MG 4’s interior yet. The previous model’s cabin featured a dash with clean, horizontal lines, and two floating screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster. In terms of features, the MG 4 sported a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats and an ADAS suite.
