New BMW X1 teaser

A BMW dealer in France has advertised a preview event for the new X1 by releasing a teaser image of the next-gen SUV. The new X1 is expected to get comprehensive changes to the exterior and interior with updated powertrains, and, for the first time, a full-electric version named iX1. BMW has confirmed that the new SUV will arrive sometime this year.

  • Expected to get petrol, diesel and plug-in-hybrid powerplants

2023 BMW X1: what all will be new?

Details of the third-gen BMW X1 are scarce at the moment, but it is expected that the next-gen SUV  will come with several powertrain options. Sources suggest that BMW is likely to equip the X1 with a 306hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the range-topping version – the same engine that currently powers the BMW M135i and BMW M235i. A plug-in-hybrid powertrain is also expected for the new X1, although more details on that are awaited.

We expect the new BMW SUV will have a more chiselled styling, in line with the bigger BMW SUVs. Like many new BMWs, the X1 will also feature larger kidney grills. On the inside, it is expected to borrow design elements from the recently introduced BMW 2 Series Active Tourer sold overseas.

Like the new 7 Series, BMW will also offer a full-electric X1 along with the ICE-powered versions, with rumours suggesting that it will be available in both single and dual-motor layouts.

2023 BMW X1: India launch details

The current generation BMW X1 was unveiled in India at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The SUV received a major update in 2020 with subtle cosmetic changes, BS6-compatible engines, and a new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox for the petrol variant.

Currently, the BMW X1 rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Volvo XC40. Audi is also expected to launch the long awaited new-gen Q3 later this year, which will rival the X1.

The India launch of the new-gen BMW X1 is still some time away. With a global unveil expected towards the end of this year, it is likely that the new SUV will come to India sometime in 2023, at the earliest.
