Jeep’s parent brand Stellantis has released a first teaser image of the next-gen Compass SUV. The all-new Compass will enter its third-gen in 2025 upon its global debut. For reference, the Compass on sale in India currently is the second-gen model, which has been available since 2017, albeit with a facelift.

    2. Will get multiple powertrain options
    3. Current-gen Compass to continue in India till 2026

New Jeep Compass: what does the teaser reveal

The teaser image released shows the side profile of the next-gen Compass. The SUV will get a more angular design, though it is expected with a familiar Jeep nose upfront. The new model sports a flat hood, and an equally flat roof that slightly tapers towards the rear. The wheel arches get muscular flares with additional cladding. A strong character line runs from the front bonnet all the way to the back, tapering downwards just at the end of the rear door.

The new Compass gets a floating roof effect due to the black-out D-pillars and quarter glass surround. Horizontally positioned tail-lamps with squarish borders are positioned just below the rear glass, while the rear overhang seems to be quite short, and neatly merges with the tall rear bumper.

The all-new SUV will be the first Jeep to ride on the STLA M platform that also underpins SUVs like the  Peugeot 3008 / 5008 and Opel Grandland, currently. The next-gen Citroen C5 Aircross SUV, which was seen on test in Spain recently, will also be underpinned by the same platform.

Along with showing the teaser, Jeep has confirmed that the SUV will come with four-wheel drive and various “various multi-energy propulsion systems”. The STLA M platform is compatible with ICE, mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrain options.

New Compass not coming to India

As reported by us back in June this year, the new Compass that has been previewed today will not make it to our shores. The new Compass project for India (codenamed J4U) was due for a market launch here in 2026. Sources tell us that the new STLA M platform has failed to meet the commercial viability for the Indian market, forcing Stellantis to cancel it. The development of the new Compass for India would require a huge investment for just one product on the STLA M platform.  The expense did not justify the expected volumes from the new Jeep SUV for India. The brand even tried exploring the manufacture of Peugeot SUVs for Malaysia from India to help generate additional volumes, but the minimum volume required from this project could not be guaranteed.

    Current-gen Compass will continue

Jeep will continue to leverage the current-gen Compass as there is no direct replacement in sight. The SUV has been around since 2017, received a major update in 2021, and is going to soldier on with the current diesel engine until 2026. As far as new models go, Jeep will most likely introduce an all-new SUV based on the Citroen platform by 2027.
