Hilux Rangga SUV is based on IMV platform
The Hilux Rangga SUV was previewed as a concept a few months ago and Toyota Indonesia has now confirmed that the vehicle will go into production with some minor changes. The Hilux Rangga SUV is underpinned by the IMV platform that also undrepins the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner.
The overall look of the Hilux Rangga SUV is quite rudimentary. It features conventional doors at the rear and will get a three-row, 7-seater layout, but sources tell us there will be multiple seating options offered at launch. It gets air conditioning, a touchscreen infotainment system and dual front airbags. The concept had LED headlamps, custom 16-inch alloy wheels and a few other accessories that may or may not be a part of the production model.
There are no mechanical changes expected over the Hilux Rangga pickup, so it will get the pickup's running gear with a RWD setup. Engine options include a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 2.4-litre turbo diesel that's mated to either a 5-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. While dimensions of the Hilux Rangga SUV concept are not known, the Rangga pickup has a wheelbase of 2,750mm, which is identical to the Fortuner.
While the Hilux Rangga won't make it to India, Toyota is readying an all-new rugged SUV for our market. Read more on that here.
