Toyota is all set to re-enter the popular mid-size sedan segment in India with the launch of the Yaris. Dealers have started accepting bookings in select cities like Delhi. The new Toyota Yaris for India was first showcased last month, at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. The car is expected in showrooms by the second half of April.

Toyota will be offering the Yaris with a single 108hp, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol engine available with a six-speed manual gearbox alongside a seven-step CVT (automatic transmission). The car will not get a diesel engine, anytime soon.
Toyota Yaris for India gets several features, so as to compete with its well-loaded competitors. Among most of the kit that we’ve come to expect out of a car in its segment, the Yaris will feature some segment-first features – like gesture control for the touchscreen infotainment system, a tyre pressure-monitoring system, 60:40 rear seat split, adjustable three-neck restraints for the rear seat, a roof-mounted rear air-con with ambient lighting, a powered driver’s seat and front parking sensors.
On the safety front, it gets all-wheel disc brakes, seven airbags (including a driver's knee airbag), Hill-Start Assist, ABS, EBD and ESP.
Toyota will build the Yaris at its plant in Karnataka. The Yaris for India will be heavily localised; which means prices are likely to be competitive. We expect the Yaris' estimated range of Rs 8.4-13.5 lakh (ex-showroom) to undercut the Honda City’s price of Rs 8.7-13.7 lakh.
