The new Jeep 7-seat SUV, which is currently being developed, will get a more powerful version of the 2.0-liter diesel engine that currently serves on the five-seat Compass.

    • New Jeep SUV will get a more premium cabin compared to the Compass
    • It will be notably longer than the standard Compass
    • Will be squarely aimed at the MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour

    Jeep seven-seat SUV engine

Under its hood, the 7-seat Jeep SUV will feature the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, Multijet turbo-diesel engine from the Compass, though it will be tuned to produce around 200hp.

In its current form, the Multijet engine develops 173hp in the Compass, and 170hp in the MG Hector and the new BS6 Tata Harrier (in the earlier BS4 Harrier it only produced 140hp). The engine is expected to come paired to the 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard considering its higher price point.

It is worth mentioning that internationally, GM’s version of the same engine produces 210hp and can be found under the hood of some of its cars like the Opel Insignia sedan.

    Jeep seven-seat SUV platform

While the seven-seat version will share the Compass’ monocoque platform, it will be much longer in length, to accommodate the third row of seats. It won’t be just the extremities, but the wheelbase too will increase in length. This should also result in improved cabin space, especially in the middle row.

    Jeep seven-seat SUV design

While the design hasn’t been officially showcased, we have seen prototypes of this SUV testing in Brazil. From what we can tell, the front-end of the new seven-seat SUV will remain largely similar to the Compass facelift. Although the new model will get some cosmetic tweaks to help differentiate the offerings. The rear doors are also expected to become longer to aid ingress-egress, while the rear styling will be quite different compared to the five-seater and the rear overhang will also be larger.

    Jeep seven-seat SUV features

Again, Jeep has not officially disclosed any details of this D-segment SUV, though it is expected to be very well equipped. The features list will be longer than the one seen on the top-spec Compass and one can expect goodies like the panoramic sunroof, full-LED auto headlamps, 18-inch wheels, cruise control, and ESP to name a few.

    Jeep seven-seat SUV rivals

Upon its India launch sometime in late 2021, the 7-seat Jeep SUV will compete with the likes of the recently launched MG Gloster, the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.
