Change city: Delhi
The Harrier is Tata’s premium five-seat SUV. It is the first car from the company to be built using a Land Rover platform and it has a front-wheel-drive layout and monocoque construction. Launched in 2019 in diesel-manual form only, the Harrier now has a diesel-auto version too. The Harrier's 2.0-litre diesel engine had also seen power upped to 170hp while a petrol engine version is also in the works. The Harrier got a major facelift at the end of 2023, which brought a fresh design, more kit, and an ADAS suite.
The Tata Harrier serves as an alternative to a full spectrum of SUVs from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos to the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700 and Jeep Compass.

Tata Harrier exterior design
The combined effect of all the new elements on the Harrier facelift makes for an edgier and even more striking looking SUV. The front and the rear see significant changes that make the Harrier look more modern and flashy. While entry-level versions get 17-inch wheels, higher versions get 18 inchers, while the range-topping Dark Edition versions have 19-inch alloys.
Tata Harrier interior and features
The interior also gets a major update a big part of which are the new screens – a 12.3-inch one for infotainment duties and a 10.25-inch one in the instrument cluster. In addition, the new dashboard design, along with the new two-spoke steering, help make the cabin feel fresh as well. Rear seat space continues to be a highlight of the Harrier.
In terms of creature comforts, top-spec Harriers are equipped with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a superb 360-deg camera, a 10-speaker JBL audio system, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, and more.
Tata Harrier mileage, engine and performance
The 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre diesel unit has a strong mid-range, a wide powerband and generally feels like a powerful engine. However, refinement levels are still far from class best standards, and this engine groans and moans at low speeds and booms when you extend it. The Harrier gets three drive modes – Eco, City and Sport – and three terrain modes – Normal, Wet and Rough; it’ll do light trails with ease and has all the ground clearance you’d need, the Harrier does not offer four wheel drive. From among the manual and automatic gearbox options, we’d recommend the latter.
Tata Harrier ride and handling
The switch from a hydraulic to an electric power steering, move to larger wheels, suspension tweaks, inclusion of rear disc brakes and a BS6.2 engine promise much. Far less steering effort is now required at parking speeds and during U-turns. Handling on the whole feels quite sorted. The ride quality is firm at low speeds, but there’s great bump absorption and good high-speed stability. Braking performance with all four discs is good, but the feel from the pedal is a bit mushy. Under hard braking, there is a lot of pitch and there's no escaping the Harrier's sheer heft.
Tata Harrier price and verdict
With the updates, Tata has addressed many of the Harrier's weaknesses. Looking at the big picture, the Harrier is now a far more complete package and a Tata you’d be happy to spend big money on. The SUV is currently priced between Rs 15.49 lakh-25.89 lakh, ex-showroom, India.
