Rear styling is a departure from the older Swifts. Prominent lip on tail gate adds muscle to design.
Third-gen Swift's smooth lines are contemporary Suzuki yet the model retains the sporty and compact look of its forebears.
There is a clear connect to older Swifts when viewed in profile. The stubby nose, blackened A-pillar and upswept glasshouse are Swift design trademarks.
The 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol and 75hp, 1.3-litre diesel engines are carried over from the last-gen Swift.
Petrol and diesel Swifts offered with 5-speed manual and AMT options.
Spot the differences. On the left is the top-spec Swift with blackened headlamp cluster, LED headlights and 'precision cut' dual-tone 15-inch alloy wheels. On the right is a lower variant model with simpler halogen headlamps and smaller 14-inch alloy wheels.
L and V trim Swifts come with 165/80 R14 tyres while Z and Z+ versions get 185/65 R15 tyres as pictured here.
LED projector headlights and LED daytime-running lights only part of fully loaded Zxi+ and Zdi+ trims.
The new Swift shares much of its nose with the Dzire but the hatchback's shapelier bumper makes it look far sportier.
Love it or hate it, but the new Swift's rear door release sits just aft the window.

This new Swift is a practical, well-equipped and fuel-efficient hatchback. Whats nice is that’s it’s handling is more fun and engaging than its predecessor and the new Swift thus moves closer to the ethos of the first genration car. Its a pity the engine leans more towards efficiency rather than performance which is what a car like the Swift deserves. What could be a bigger deterrent though is the price of its top variants, which is simply too close to the more premium, comfier and better-equipped Baleno. 
But don’t write off the new Swift just yet. Its new Z12E petrol engine is very fuel efficient and owners will particularly appreciate its light controls and overall user-friendliness. The AMT is the nicest by class standards, and the 5-speed manual is among the best gearboxes out there. And then true to its character, its aesthetics, both inside and out, reek a youthful and sporty vibe easily making it the most charming Maruti hatchback on sale.
