Hi team, I have been using a Baleno Delta MT for the past 9 years and am now looking to change my car. My preference is a midsize SUV with an automatic transmission. My budget is around Rs 15 lakh. Please suggest a good option.
If you want to buy a midsize SUV, we would suggest stretching your budget slightly, as the automatic versions of the Honda Elevate, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos sit just above this price point.
Among these, the recently launched Seltos HTE(O) CVT stands out as the best pick. While the model itself is new, the 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with the CVT automatic is a proven and reliable powertrain that has been in use across earlier Seltos models and several Hyundai cars for years.
This Kia car also offers good space and a comfortable ride, and even the lower HTE(O) variant is well-equipped with features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a 60:40 split folding rear seat.

I am looking for a mid-size SUV under Rs 17 lakh and have narrowed it down to the Honda Elevate and the new Kia Seltos. Most of my driving will be on highways, and I prefer a manual transmission. Which one should I choose?
Between the two options, you can go ahead with the Kia Seltos, the HTK(O) MT variant. The new Seltos is longer and wider than the Elevate, giving you more space. It is also better equipped than Elevate.
Elevate's noise insulation is not the best in the segment, and a fair amount of engine noise and road noise enters the cabin, which can be bothersome on highway journeys.

I am looking for a petrol automatic mid-size SUV for city use, to comfortably seat five adults and with a decent boot. I am not keen on Tata or Mahindra. My on-road budget is ₹15 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.
The way car prices have gone up, the more desirable variants of mid-size segment SUVs are now costing around 18 lakhs and above. However, there are a few products where the lower variants too have been given good features, like the Kia Seltos.
The Seltos HTK 1.5 CVT fits close to your budget and does not feel like a bare-bones variant. The latest Seltos is longer and more spacious than before, comfortably seats five adults, and offers a 447-litre boot, which is among the best in the segment.
The other option is Citroen Aircross X Turbo Petrol AT. It's not as feature-loaded as others in the segment, but it comes with a solid engine, a smooth gearbox and offers excellent ride quality. If you remove the third row, you get a practical 444 litre boot.

I am planning to buy a new compact SUV with a budget of 15L. My yearly running would be around 10k kms (50% bumper-to-bumper and 50% highways). I am confused between Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi AMT and the Hyundai Creta EX (O) (both petrol). Please suggest a better option (not particularly from these two). I felt Brezza's interior isn't good enough, but it beats Creta petrol in mileage. Haven't considered Tata or Mahindra because of the reliability factor.
Between the two options you have selected, you can pick the Hyundai Creta. It has better interiors and is more spacious, too. Hyundai Creta's 1.5-litre engine is a refined unit and performs well for everyday usage. It is also the most efficient unit among the ones being offered on Creta. In our real-world mileage test, the mileage was not significantly different for Brezza and Creta.
The other option you can consider is from Hyundai's sister brand Kia, the Setos, which was launched recently, offers more space, a fresh cabin and the latest tech. The looks are a little polarizing, but if you don't mind it, the Kia Seltos can be a better bet.

I want to buy a new car with an on-road budget of Rs 16-20 lakh. My priorities are good suspension due to back pain, good headroom and thigh support as I am 6 feet tall, long-term reliability, decent mileage and occasional use by 5 family members. Monthly usage is expected to be around 600-1,000km, with a 60:40 city-to-highway split.
The car that you can go for is the Kia Seltos, the HTX Petrol CVT variant. With the launch of the new Kia Seltos, the ride quality has improved, the seats are supportive, and the cabin is spacious and well-equipped.
The Kia's 1.5 Petrol CVT is one of the smoothest and most refined drivetrains in the segment. You can expect the Seltos mileage to be around 11 in the city and 15 on the highway, which is decent in the segment.

I want to upgrade to a new automatic car primarily for city driving in Bangalore, with occasional highway trips. My budget is ₹15 to 17 lakh. Should I choose the Kia Seltos or Tata Sierra, or is there a better option?
The powertrain to pick in the Tata Sierra lineup is the 1.5 Turbo Petrol with AT, but for that, you will have to pay around 21 lakhs. Within your budget, you can consider the Kia Seltos HTK CVT. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is a smooth and refined one, and the CVT on offer is one of the smoothest gearboxes in the segment. While CVTs have a rubber band effect, it's not that apparent in city driving, where it feels smooth. Seltos is now bigger than earlier and has decent features too.

I am planning to buy a new car within a budget of Rs 20-22 lakh. My preference is Honda/Toyota/Kia, and Mahindra cars. Should I go for 7XO/Seltos or should I wait for upcoming models from Toyota or Honda? Please suggest. Also suggest between 7XO and Seltos.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a good option to consider. It is spacious, comfortable, and has a strong set of features. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy, and the automatic gearbox is smooth too. The new suspension gives it an excellent ride, and the feature set is vast, too.
The Kia Seltos is another option worth considering, but it has a much bolder design. The interior is high quality, but the overall space isn't better than the Mahindra car. Between the two, the Mahindra XUV 7XO would be our recommendation.

I am planning to buy a new automatic car with a budget of ₹16.5 lakh. I am considering the Hyundai Creta EX optional IVT, Kia Seltos HTE optional, and Maruti Victoris VXi AT. Are these good options, or should I consider any other car?
The Kia Seltos HTE(O) is the pick of the three models on your shortlist. Its engine and gearbox (shared with the Creta) are very smooth and refined, and what also sets it apart is its spacious cabin, which is the roomiest of the three.
This Kia car also delivers the best ride comfort of the three SUVs. The HTE(O) gets its share of goodies, too, like a slick 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital dials, and will make you feel like you got the most for your money.

Looking to upgrade. I am confused between the Kia Seltos HTE (O) IVT and the Maruti Grand Vitara Delta AT. I liked Seltos overall as a product; however, worried about the maintenance & higher spares cost. Please advise with respect to Seltos mileage & maintenance cost. Can accomodate upto 20% higher mileage & maintenance cost. Please advise.
If mileage and maintenance cost are the only reasons you are holding back on the Kia, we would not worry about that too much. The Maruti brand has a general reputation and image of low maintenance. However, the Kia Seltos's service costs are not very high, and the brand has a decent reputation for reliability.
We will be doing a detailed maintenance cost study in a few months, but it will be safe to say that the overall cost will be within the ballpark of the Grand Vitara. As for mileage, we have yet to test the new Kia Seltos, but it should be close (between 20% to 30%) of the Grand Vitara, which returned 11.6kpl in the city and 15.3kpl on the highway in our standard test cycle.

I am planning to buy an automatic car with a budget of up to ₹20 lakh (maximum). My priorities are automatic engine, safety and comfort. I am confused between the new-generation Kia Seltos and the Honda Elevate. Should I wait for the upcoming Taigun and Elevate facelifts?
The Kia Seltos is a very good all-rounder, and the new-generation car has had focused improvements in ride quality and rear seat space, so this should meet your requirements for a comfortable car. Safety equipment is good, with features like six airbags and ESC standard across the range. The car has not been crash tested by GNCAP or BNCAP yet.
The Volkswagen Taigun has secured a 5-star GNCAP rating, and the facelift should secure the same too. However, in terms of comfort, it would rank behind the Seltos and will take a few months to arrive, with the Honda Elevate being later still. Thus, on the whole, we think the Kia Seltos is a good buy that you can happily go ahead with.
