Trending Questions on Mahindra Thar Roxx - Answered by Autocar Experts
Hey Autocar, I am confused about the variant selection of the XUV 7XO launched on January 5th. I found the AX7 VFM variant attractive, but it lacks features like auto-dimming IRVM and an electronic parking brake. Now I am thinking of pushing my budget to purchase either the AX7 T or AX7 L diesel automatic. My doubt is whether to choose AWD or FWD with a ₹1 lakh difference. I have already pre-booked and now need to confirm the variant selection. Thank you.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a well-rounded product, and the AX7 T is the variant to choose as it offers all the premium features you would expect at this price point. You get a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, ventilated front seats, Level 2 ADAS, an electronic parking brake and much more.
As for whether you should opt for AWD, it really depends on your usage. If you live in the hills or regularly drive on challenging and slippery terrain, the AWD version can make sense. For most driving conditions, however, the Front Wheel Drive version will do just fine.
If your idea is to get into serious off-roading, the 7XO is not the best choice, even with AWD. For that kind of usage, the Mahindra Scorpio N or the Mahindra Thar Roxx, with higher ground clearance and a low-range gearbox, will be far more capable.
I want to buy a new SUV around ₹20 lakhs as my primary car. I really love the shape of the Thar Roxx. I want a capable, punchy engine that gives a feeling of great pickup. Mileage is not an issue for me. Most driving will be in the city. Can you suggest an SUV and variant (diesel/petrol)?
Yes, the Mahindra Thar Roxx has an iconic shape that resembles the Jeep Wrangler and has a lot of appeal. If mileage is not an issue, then go for the 2-litre petrol automatic, which is smooth, responsive and has a good pick-up.
You don’t need a 4x4 for the city, and hence the rear-wheel-drive MX3 variant will suit you best.
I want a proper SUV for daily use in Mumbai traffic, with occasional long drives. Can I consider the Thar Roxx for daily commuting? My preference is for a rugged and capable SUV.
I am contemplating changing my 2013 Honda City, which I truly adore and has clocked 167,000 km, for a new daily driver. I am not a fan of very tech-heavy vehicles. I am considering the Honda City CVT ZX, but part of me also wants a real SUV like the Thar 3-door or the 5-door Roxx. My budget is about ₹20 lakh, and reliability is a big consideration. Please advise.
The Mahindra Thar is one of those special products that tug at the heartstrings, so we can understand why the boy in you wants it.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx, which is a 5-door, has a far better suspension than the 3-door. The practicality of a spacious back seat, is the one to go for if you want to use it as a daily driver.
It is tough and can withstand a lot of beating and high mileage without a sweat, but it may not be completely niggle-free like your Honda City probably is.
Also, bear in mind that you may tire of the Thar, which has a bumpy ride and controls that are heavier than the user-friendly Honda City you are used to. Yours is a case of heart over head, so go ahead and satisfy that boy in you :)
I am considering buying the Thar Roxx MX3 Petrol AT. If my requirements are not suitable for this car, please feel free to suggest alternatives. 1. Manageable body roll for parents above 60 years of age, but decently healthy. 2. 500-1200 km trips, with a sustained cruising speed of 130-140 kmph, and braking performance that does not discomfort passengers 3. Light off-roading capability and decent comfort over potholes and bad roads 4. Primarily for long weekend trips or bi-yearly trips with friends and parents, and it should be fun to drive.
Hello, I work abroad & want to buy a new car for my family of 5. Initially, it will be used by my daughter for city driving with limited weekly usage. I am looking for a car that is easy to drive in traffic, safe, fuel-efficient, and suitable for long trips when I visit during the holidays. It should be easy for women to drive in the city, yet strong and stable on highways and ghats. My budget is around ₹20 to 25 lakh. When I was last in Chennai, I almost bought the Thar Roxx AX7L. I plan to make the purchase in June 2026.
I plan to buy a Thar Rox. My daily running is about 10 km, with long road trips once every quarter. Which engine is best for my use - petrol or diesel - and which model offers the best value for money within a ₹20 lakh budget? Please advise.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx petrol makes more sense given your limited running. The 2.0 litre turbo petrol is powerful, smooth and refined. While the diesel is more efficient, it is not as smooth, and you would need significantly higher running costs to recover its higher upfront cost.
Since you are not planning hardcore off-roading and your usage will mostly be daily commutes and highway driving, the fact that the petrol is only offered in 4X2 does not really matter.
The MX5 fits your requirements well, in both manual and automatic, stays within your budget, and offers features you would expect, such as 19-inch alloys, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a single pane sunroof and a reversing camera.
