    Kia Carens vs Mahindra XUV700

We are a family of five, and I need an SUV that is spacious enough for seven, runs on diesel, and costs under Rs 20 lakh. It also needs to have a good safety rating. I have shortlisted the Mahindra Scorpio-N, XUV700, MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and Kia Carens. Please suggest a good option.

Autocar India says: We feel the Kia Carens would be the most appropriate for you as it comes with a level of quality that stands out from the rest. It is well equipped, nimble to drive, and reliable, too. The 1.5-litre diesel is a proven engine that works best with the 6-speed torque converter automatic. However, its performance isn’t as good as the bigger and more powerful SUVs on your shortlist, of which, the XUV700 diesel is the benchmark. For city driving and occasional highway driving, though, the diesel Carens has adequate performance. If you want sheer space and a very usable third row, the Safari is the best.
