Jeep dealers across India will start delivering the petrol-powered Compass sometime around Diwali. Bookings for the petrol SUV had commenced way back in June this year.
Though, the Jeep Compass petrol and diesel were launched together, the SUV-maker commenced deliveries of the diesel versions on August 6, 2017. The company will start deliveries of the Compass petrol automatic first followed by the manual-gearbox variant at a later date. Amongst the two, the Compass petrol automatic is more in demand as compared to its manual counterpart and hence receives delivery priority.
The Jeep Compass petrol comes in three trims – Sport, Limited and Limited (O) – and is powered by a 162hp, 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo-petrol engine. Gearbox duties are performed by a seven-speed auto or a six-speed manual gearbox.
The diesel-powered Compass gets a 2.0-litre MultiJet engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox for now. There are talks of a diesel automatic version launching in India in the near future.
The Jeep Compass is manufactured at the FCA’s Ranjangaon plant for India as well as for the export markets. Bookings for the Jeep Compass crossed 10,000 mark last month. To keep up with the rising demand for the Compass, Jeep has ramped up production at its Ranjangaon plant with two shifts working six days a week.
The Compass rivals the likes of the Honda CR-V, the Hyundai Tucson and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
