Hyundai is preparing to bring the all-new Elantra to India sometime later this year. The carmaker has begun testing the car on Indian soil. The new generation model, unveiled in September last year in its home country, South Korea, sees a departure from its predecessor’s fluidic design language and is based on an all-new platform as well.

Featuring more grown up looks, the new Elantra gets a coupé-like profile along with getting design elements such as sleek headlamps with daytime running lamps, the large family grille, inset foglamps, wrap-around tail-lamps, faux rear diffuser and an integrated spoiler on the boot lid.

Inside, the dashboard is also all-new with styling in-line with the new Tuscon, and a centrally mounted infotainment display, and revised switchgear along with a new multi-function steering and dials.

In India, Hyundai introduced the facelifted version of the previous-gen Elantra last year with minor styling updates and more features. It was believed that Hyundai would continue to use the current model for the near future considering the facelift is yet to be a year old in the market. However, they are readying the car for a launch towards the end of the year. The new Elantra will enter the executive sedan segment in the country, where it will rival the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis, Volkswagen Jetta and the Skoda Octavia.

Hyundai is also set to bring the all-new Tucson to India this year. Now in its third generation, the Tucson is the only SUV in Hyundai’s international line-up not on sale in the country. Set to fill the void between the popular Hyundai Creta and the Santa Fe, the SUV is expected to be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, with the petrol motor likely to be the new 1.4 T-GDi turbo-petrol unit showcased at the Auto Expo 2016.

Creta feels very responsive at slow speeds. Ride and handling is more car-like.

Creta’s cabin quality is good. The bits and pieces used look quite upmarket too; driving position is good thanks to well placed seats and steering wheel adjustment.

Its long seat base all-around is very comfy.

Boot looks larger than its actual capacity.

Touchscreen infotainment not the best around.

Auto ’box works seamlessly.

Rear-AC vents not very effective.

1.6-litre diesel mill is smooth.

XUV feels easy to drive in city. Ride quality is decent. It doesn’t handle well, though

Black and beige theme looks nice. Quality of plastics is only average; minimal steering rake adjust makes it difficult to find ideal position.

Front seats comfy.

Rear seats a bit upright.

No boot space with third-row seats up.

Bluesense infotainment nice to use.

6-speed auto ’box works well.

Headlamps with light guides look nice.

2.2-litre engine has good pulling power.
