Porsche has officially launched Porsche Approved, its used car buying programme, in India. The German carmaker then becomes the first supercar company in India to have an official used car buying programme. The intent is to keep older Porsches running as new and also bring new customers to the brand who will have access to the carmaker's line-up at more affordable rates.

  • Porsche Approved models will get a minimum 12-month warranty
  • All Porsche Approved models will go through a 111-point checklist
  • Porsche promises “near new” levels of restoration

Porsche Approved to run 111-point checklist

For a Porsche to be covered under the Porsche Approved programme, it either has to be less than six years old or have less than 2,00,000km on the odometer. If a vehicle meets these requirements, it will be run past a 111-point checklist to ensure that it meets all quality standards. Any faults with the car will be fixed at this stage before being officially listed under the programme.

Porsche Approved pre-owned cars will be eligible for a minimum 12-month warranty and will also come with 24-hour roadside assistance. The warranty covers repairs to all essential vehicle components, along with labour charges, although consumables and wear and tear parts such as wiper blades, tyres, fluids and brake pads are excluded.

Potential buyers can access the list of Porsche Approved vehicles on the carmaker’s official website, where each car will be listed with its service history, spec and build, and the new resale price. Additionally, buyers can also check out the vehicles offline at any of Porsche Approved dealerships across India.

The first vehicle under this programme was delivered to a customer at the Porsche Centre in Kochi today. It was a 991 generation of the 911 GT3, finished in a striking shade of green.

Will help dodge semiconductor crisis

This programme will obviously bring a new and younger set of customers to the brand and, importantly, will also bring some engagement to the dealerships. In fact, the procurement, quality check, repairs and resale will all be dealer-level activities.

Being the first in the used supercar buying space, Porsche hasn’t yet set a definite target in terms of resale volume. Responding to a media query on the potential and scope of the segment, Manolito Vujicic, brand director, Porsche India, said, “It’s a start. We will review the programme in a year from now. Right now, the goal is to keep more Porsches active on Indian roads for many years to come.”

Vujicic also pressed on the current supply constraints, which is where the Porsche Approved programme can be a huge relief to buyers. He said, “Right now, with the supply shortages, you could wait for 1-2 years for delivery of a new car, or buy a used car of same quality right away.”

Porsche promises “near new” levels of quality with all models under the Porsche Approved programme. For potential buyers, owning a dream Porsche just got more accessible.
