We had first reported Skoda’s plans to re-launch the Superb in India back in September last year, and we can now finally confirm that the launch is all set to take place on April 3, 2024. Sales of the third-gen Superb were discontinued with the implementation of the BS6 Phase II emissions norms on April 1, 2023.
- Previous-gen Skoda Superb to return as a full import
- Fourth-gen Superb to follow a year later
- New Skoda Octavia to follow as a CBU too
Skoda Superb to return as CBU
The Skoda Superb will return to India, however, unlike before, it won’t be locally assembled. Instead,
Skoda will be importing the Superb as a CBU (completely built unit) under the government's GSR 870 rule that allows manufacturers to import a total of 2,500 units a year without homologation.
It should be noted that Skoda will be introducing the previous-gen Superb that was on sale in India. The sedan is expected to be imported in a single top-spec Laurin & Klement trim with new features including ADAS tech like lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control with speeds up to 210kph. It will also get park assist with a 360-degree camera. Meanwhile, the new
fourth-gen Superb, which made its global debut in November last year, is likely to follow around a year later.
Skoda Superb: powertrain details
The Skoda Superb will be equipped with a BS6 Phase II-compliant 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 190hp and 320Nm - the same state of tune as before. The sedan will be available with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard, feeding power to the front wheels only. This engine will help it go from 0-100kph in 7.8 seconds.
Skoda Superb: expected price
The Skoda Superb was last available in India at prices ranging from Rs 34.19-37.29 lakh. However, considering that the sedan will now return as a full import, it will become pricier too. We expect the prices to start around Rs 43 lakh. Upon launch, the Skoda Superb will retain its rivalry with the
Toyota Camry which is currently priced at Rs 46.17 lakh.
Following the Superb, Skoda is planning to reintroduce the Octavia nameplate in India with the arrival of the new-gen model, also as a full import. You can find out more about it
