Tata Motors rolls out benefits for frontline workers
    • Benefits of up to Rs 45,000

    • Scheme includes multiple EMI options

Like other carmakers, Tata Motors is going the distance to woo car buyers with multiple sales initiatives. Long tenure (up to eight years) installment schemes and on-road price financing are just some of the measures Tata is relying on to get customers back to showrooms in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The carmaker has also announced special benefits for individuals leading the fight against coronavirus from the frontline including doctors, healthcare professionals and police officials. Benefits of up to Rs 45,000 are available on the Tata Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Harrier.

Interestingly, Tata Motors has clarified that the recently launched Altroz hatchback is not covered under the new initiatives. However, dealers we spoke to were willing to negotiate on price so there are some savings to be had on Tata's new hatchback.

Priced from Rs 5.29 lakh, the Altroz is available with two engine options and five trim levels. The Altroz petrol is powered by an 86hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit while the diesel gets a 90hp, 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit. Tata's all-electric Altroz is due to arrive in the near future with a Rs 10-12 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag. Click to know how Tata cleverly packaged the Altroz EVs' battery.

In terms of rivals, the Altroz competes with other premium hatches such as the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz. Following the implementation of the BS6 emission norms, the i20 became a petrol-only model as Hyundai decided to axe the 1.4-litre diesel engine from its line-up. Honda, meanwhile, is in the process of upgrading the Jazz to meet the stringent emission standards, while the petrol-only Baleno and Glanza have already been BS6-compliant for a while.
