Four new SUV-coupes coming your way

While the SUV-coupe body style has been limited to the luxury space in India, a host of mass-market car manufacturers are already working on introducing SUV-coupes in the country. Here’s a list of four upcoming SUV-coupes that you should watch out for.

    Citroen Basalt

The Citroen Basalt will be the company’s fourth model in India under its C-Cubed programme. The SUV-coupe made its debut in March; its launch is expected to take place later this year. It will likely be offered with the same 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross, with manual and automatic gearbox options. Apart from the sloping roofline, the Basalt is also expected to pack some additional features as compared to the C3 hatch and C3 Aircross SUV.

    Tata Curvv EV

After the Tata Curvv was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in close-to-production form earlier this year, our sources confirmed that the SUV-coupe will be launched in India first with an EV powertrain. The Curvv EV will be based on the same platform as the Nexon, but will be 313mm longer and boast a 62mm longer wheelbase over the compact SUV. The launch is set to take place in September this year. Tata is yet to reveal the technical specifications, but we expect it to offer a range of about 450-500km on a single charge. Petrol and diesel-powered Curvv SUVs are expected to arrive at a later date.

    Mahindra XUV.e9

The Mahindra XUV.e9 is essentially the all-electric, coupe derivative of the XUV700 SUV. It was spied on test in a near-production form last month, revealing design details such as a full-width LED light bar at the front with split headlamps that are vertically stacked in a triangular housing, connected LED tail lamps, and of course, its sloping roofline. The range-topping version could get an 80kWh battery pack feeding power to two motors for an all-wheel drive configuration.

    Mahindra BE.05

Slated to be the third born-EV SUV from Mahindra, the BE.05 will go on sale after the XUV.e8 and the XUV.e9 SUVs. The BE.05 will be the second electric coupe SUV in the brand’s line-up, and will be smaller in size compared to the XUV700-based XUV.e9. This means that it will sit above the XUV400, and will directly rival the Tata Curvv EV, while also putting up a fight against the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti eVX. Both 2WD and 4WD options will likely be available, and the car will make use of a 79kWh battery pack.
