Hyundai has just revealed the first design sketch of its upcoming hatchback (codenamed AH2), and it confirms the new small car's tall-boy stance and a couple of other design details.

The sketch depicts the AH2 hatchback sporting a kink in the window line (similar to the design element seen on the Carlino compact SUV concept revealed at the 2016 Auto Expo), and it looks like the AH2 will also get pronounced, well-defined wheel arches.

As we'd told you some time back, Hyundai is considering reviving the Santro name for the AH2 hatchback, although with a suffix - in the same way ‘Xing’ followed the moniker on the facelift version of the original car. The name reveal is set to take place on October 4, 2018.

The AH2 hatchback is a replacement for the Eon. As now confirmed by the design sketch, spy pics of the car spotted on test point to a high roof or tall-boy design (a la the original Santro). As you'd expect from a Hyundai, the AH2 hatchback will likely feature quality materials and excellent fit-finish levels on the inside. Powering the AH2 hatchback will be an updated version of the Santro Xing’s 1.1-litre petrol engine, with a BS-VI-compliant version in the pipeline for 2020. The AH2 will also be the first Hyundai to be offered with the option of an automated manual transmission based on a five-speed gearbox.

The AH2 will be the newest addition to a segment that hasn't seen much action in recent times. When it launches this festive season, the AH2 will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Tata Tiago.

What do you think about this sketch, and how do you feel about the AH2 potentially receiving the Santro name? Let us know in the comments.
