The all-new Dzire seems to be getting ready for a market launch in the coming months. The fourth-gen Dzire (internal codename: YED) will follow the new Swift, which will go on sale in the coming weeks, to the market. Fresh spy shots suggest Maruti will stick to the tried-and-tested formula of a Swift-based compact sedan for the Indian market.
- New Dzire likely to have identical dimensions as outgoing car
- Will get more features, new Z series engine
- Will launch in the coming months
New Maruti Dzire: what do the spy shots show
The new Dzire has been caught on test for the first time and these set of spy shots reveal quite a bit about the upcoming Maruti sedan. Just like its predecessors, the new Dzire seems to share quite a bit with the hatchback it's based on, but there will also be some major differences, thanks to its three-box compact sedan body style.
The platform and quite a few body panels, including the front fenders, the bonnet, and even the rear doors, seem to have been borrowed from the new Swift. The outgoing Dzire had a different set of doors from the Swift as the hatch had C-pillar mounted door handles. As that is not the case with the fourth-gen Swift – it gets a standard position for the door handles – the Dzire will use the same doors as the hatchback.
The new Dzire, however, does get a slightly different and straighter roofline, and a new rear glass; the area behind the rear door also is completely different thanks to the added rear boot. The rear boot design seems to be flattish, like the outgoing model, in order to facilitate maximum boot space and also aid in the positioning of the CNG tank, for the variant that'll have the factory-fit CNG kit. The rear styling is all-new with a fresh look for the tail-lamps, which now extend upwards. The license plate continues to be positioned at the centre, just like the outgoing model.
The front styling is not visible in these spy shots, but going by what Maruti has done for the current-gen Swift and Dzire twins, we expect some styling differences with the sedan getting a different-looking nose with more chrome inserts, which are meant to give a more upmarket look.
While the interior will have a lot in common with the Swift, the Dzire will have lighter colour materials with an additional dose of brushed aluminum and faux wood inserts. We don’t expect many feature differences with the new Swift though. Maruti could equip it with the new 9-inch infotainment screen, among the other new kit seen on latest-gen Maruti models. The Dzire could even get a 360-degree camera setup that is available on the Fronx, but not on the Baleno.
Under the hood, the new Dzire will get the new 1.2-litre Z series petrol engine that will debut on the new Swift. Expect this engine to come with manual and AMT automatic gearbox options.
New Dzire India launch timeline
While the new Swift will go on sale in the coming weeks, the new Dzire's launch, however, is still some time away and we expect a gap of at least three months between both models.
