While Maruti Suzuki dealers are already having a busy 2022, with new model launches like the Baleno, Wagon R and the Dzire CNG, the brand has lined up another set of new model introductions for the coming months. These include major changes to three vehicles, along with engine updates for a few. Here’s what we expect.

  • Ertiga, XL6 facelifts to come by April 2022
  • Brezza launch to take place by June 2022
  • S-Presso, Ignis could get engine upgrades soon

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga facelift

Among the next set of upcoming launches, the popular Ertiga will see a mid-cycle update. The updated Ertiga has already been spied testing on our roads, and while test mules have not suggested much in terms of cosmetic changes, there will be major updates under the skin. The Ertiga’s 105hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine will most likely continue as is, but the 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will be replaced by a new 6-speed unit. Mechanical updates aside, the Ertiga facelift is expected to feature a new design for the grille, along with new colours and possibly updated upholstery for the interior. There are talks of the new 9.0-inch infotainment screen making its way to the Ertiga as well.

Maruti Suzuki XL6 facelift

Along with the Ertiga, the XL6 will also get a mid-cycle update. The MPV now has a direct rival in the Kia Carens and Maruti Suzuki is expected to add more features and larger alloy wheels on the XL6 to give it a better stance. The facelifted XL6 will likely come with a mildly revised front end with a new grille and reworked bumpers. Sources have also suggested that the updated XL6 could get both 6- and 7-seater configurations, in a bid to widen its appeal.

Updated Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

The Vitara Brezza is due for a full model change and is expected by June this year. It will continue to be underpinned by same Global C platform, although there will be major sheet metal changes. Spy photos of the updated Vitara Brezza have revealed a completely overhauled front and rear fascia, along with major updates inside the cabin. It will have a lot more features than the current model, some of which will also be shared with the new Baleno. The updated model will most likely get a ‘Vitara’ prefix as well. Under the hood, the new Brezza will be powered its 1.5-litre petrol engine and will come with a 6-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG

Maruti Suzuki has been looking to introduce factory-fitted CNG kits on its Nexa range of cars, the first of which will be the new Baleno. When launched, the Baleno CNG will be the first instance of the 1.2-litre K12N engine being meted out the CNG treatment. There will be a drop in engine output, although exact numbers will be revealed closer to launch.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso DualJet

Like most of Maruti’s line-up, the S-Presso, too, is in the line to be updated with the DualJet engine seen on other models like the Celerio, Baleno and Wagon R. The micro-SUV / hatchback is currently powered by a 68hp, 1.0-litre K10B petrol engine. This engine will likely be replaced by the new 67hp, 1.0-litre K10C DualJet engine that’s offered on the new Celerio. This motor has given the Celerio the bragging rights of being the most fuel-efficient petrol car in the country. Given the fact that the S-Presso is smaller and lighter, it could even better the Celerio’s fuel efficiency. We, however, do not expect any other cosmetic updates or equipment addition to the new S-Presso.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis DualJet

The ageing Ignis is currently powered by Maruti’s 83hp, 1.2-litre K12M engine. Like the rest of the range, this could also be replaced by the more powerful, 90hp, 1.2-litre K12N powerplant. Once rolled out on the Ignis, all of Maruti’s models with the 1.2-litre engine will have been updated with the DualJet technology. The updated Ignis will also likely be more fuel efficient than the current model, although we do not expect any cosmetic or equipment upgrades. The Ignis was last facelifted in 2020 along with its BS6 update.

Other upcoming Maruti launches in the horizon

Apart from the above-mentioned models, Maruti Suzuki has a few more launches lined up for India. The most important of these will perhaps be the all-new Creta rivalling midsize SUV that is being developed in collaboration with Toyota. It was recently spied testing for the first time on our roads and is expected to go on sale around the festive season this year. Maruti Suzuki is also readying an all-new generation of the Alto, which is expected to go on sale by the end of the year. Following the Dzire CNG, the Swift is also likely to be updated with a factory-fitted CNG kit soon. Lastly, the Jimny is expected to make its way into Maruti Suzuki showrooms sometime next year.
