There is good news coming from Japan for fans of small, light and fun sports cars. Suzuki and Toyota are to jointly develop an all-new entry level sports car which will not just have their version, but a Daihatsu as well. This means, the Suzuki Cappuccino could be reborn after being dormant for 26 years.
According to this website in Japan, the new Suzuki Cappucino will be completely different from the original one and will not come with the tiny 657cc engine. Instead, the new model will have a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine with RWD setup. This engine will also see duty on the new Toyota Starlet which will initially be a Japan only model. Toyota sells another Starlet hatchback in South Africa which is essentially a rebadged Maruti Baleno.
The new Cappucino will be around 4-metre-long, 1.7-metre-wide and 1.2-metre-high and will have a wheelbase of around 2,480mm. It will be an open top roadster. Gearbox choices will include both manual and automatics.
The orignal Suzuki Cappucino was built between 1991 and 1998 and was sold mostly in Japan. Some units were exported to other countries, including India.
