Tata Motors has joined hands with Tata Power and inaugurated seven new EV fast-charging stations in Pune as part of its plan to install 300 such stations across five major Indian cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad – by the end of FY2020.
In fact, Tata plans to set up 45 more stations in the next two months, itself. The first 7 fast-chargers – 15kW DC units – have been installed at Tata Motors dealerships in and around Pune. The next 293 chargers will be installed at Tata showrooms, select Tata Group retail outlets and other public locations across the above mentioned cities. In addition, the new charging stations will adhere to the 30-50 kW DC CCS2 standard.
The charging stations can be accessed by anyone with an electric car, with Tata promising attractive charging tariffs.
Tata Power already has an EV charging network that comprises 85 touchpoints in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Delhi, of which 42 stations have been set up in Mumbai.
Tata Motor has just one electric car in its current portfolio – the Tigor EV – and while it has received a price cut thanks to GST on EVs being lowered to 5 percent, it is not yet available to private buyers. However, the brand is working on bringing an all-electric version of the Nexon, more powerful version of the Tigor EV and the Altroz EV to the Indian market in the coming months.
