BYD India will commence bookings for the new eMax 7 electric MPV from September 21 for a token amount of Rs 51,000. The bookings can be made online or at any authorised BYD dealership across the country, and its launch is slated for October 8. The eMax 7 is essentially a facelifted e6, which was BYD’s first model in India in 2021.

    2. Will be offered in three-row seating configuration
    3. Has a claimed range of up to 530km

Notably, BYD will be offering special benefits for the first 1,000 bookings, if made by October 8, 2024. These include benefits amounting up to Rs 51,000, and complementary 7kW and 3KW chargers upon delivery.

BYD eMax 7: what to expect

Compared to the e6, the eMax 7 gets mildly altered headlamp and tail-lamp design. The bumpers also get a completely new design with more chrome elements at either end.

The dashboard remains mostly unchanged, but the biggest update will be a larger 12.8-inch floating touchscreen, up from the 10.1-inch unit in the e6. The centre console is slightly revised with two wireless charging pads, some new switchgear and a new drive selector lever. It also gets a new steering wheel, but retains the analogue dials for the instrument cluster.

Sources say that unlike the e6, which was a 5-seater, the BYD eMax 7 will have three rows of seating with 6- and 7-seater configurations and get leatherette upholstery. The MPV will also get more equipment including a panoramic glass roof and an ADAS suite, among others.

Internationally, the eMax 7 gets two battery pack options: a 55.4kWh unit with a claimed range of 420km and a 71.8kWh unit with 530km range. Output is 163hp with the smaller battery and 204hp with the larger battery – torque is rated at 310Nm for both. That’s quite a significant step up from the 95hp, 180Nm output of the e6. BYD already offered the 71.8kWh battery on the e6 in India, so that’ll likely remain unchanged. But it remains to be seen if the smaller battery makes its way here.

Upon launch, the BYD eMax 7 will be squarely aimed against the Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Suzuki Invicto. Sources tell us that the eMax 7 will be priced between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 33 lakh (ex-showroom).
