Chinese car manufacturer Chery has confirmed that future Jaguar Land Rover EVs will make use of Exeed’s modular platforms. Exeed is essentially a subsidiary of Chinese carmaker Chery, which makes premium SUVs.

  1. Future Jaguar Land Rover EVs to be based on Exeed's M3X, E0X platforms
  2. M3X to likely underpin JLR's plug-in hybrids
  3. E0X will likely be used for BEVs

Chery’s chairman Yin Tongyao has confirmed that JLR will adopt the Chinese manufacturer's platforms for its future PHEV and BEV models. The British luxury carmaker will make use of Exeed’s M3X and E0X modular architectures that underpin cars like the Chery Tiggo 9, Luxeed 7, Luxeed R7, Exeed RX, and more.

Chery and JLR have been in a joint venture in China since 2012 for the production of Jaguar Land Rover's cars. However, Exeed has only been in existence since 2017, and will be the official supplier of the EV platforms to JLR.

The M3X platform, also known as T2X in China, is dedicated to ICE and PHEVs. The M3X architecture can be equipped with Chery’s ‘Super Hybrid’ powertrain, which comprises a petrol-powered engine that's paired with two electric motors.

The E0X platform is jointly developed by Chery and Huawei, and supports 800V high-voltage charging architecture. The E0X underpins cars like Exlantix ES, Exlantix ET, Luxeed S7, and Luxeed R7, and could be used by JLR for its EVs. It will be interesting to see if JLR will sell the E0X- and M3X-based vehicles in China exclusively, or export it to other markets as well.

Range Rover EV coming this year

The Range Rover EV prototype was revealed about two months ago and is expected to go on sale later this year. The Range Rover EV’s specs are yet to be revealed, but it will likely get a dual-motor system to simulate 4WD. JLR opened the global waiting list for the electric Range Rover in December last year and by February, claimed to have taken more than 16,000 expressions of interest.
