Hyundai seems to be gearing up to introduce an off-road capable version of the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 that's been spied testing has new wheels, updated bumpers as well as some noteworthy additions made to the exterior over the standard Ioniq 5.

  1. Ioniq 5 range to broaden further with XRT variant
  2. Spotted with all-terrain tyres, beefed-up styling
  3. To be based on the facelifted Ioniq 5 available abroad

The Ioniq 5 seen here is likely a part of its XRT range, which is dedicated to more rugged versions of Hyundai's SUVs. The XRT range currently includes the Tucson, Palisade and Santa Fe SUVs, and the Santa Cruz pickup truck.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT design

Despite the prototype being camouflaged, a host of changes are quite evident: roof rails, black plastic body cladding and black-coloured 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 30-inch all-terrain tyres. There’s also 38mm of extra ground clearance as compared to the regular Ioniq 5. Other changes should include more rugged-looking bumpers on either end, XRT badging as well as a new interior theme.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT powertrain, battery pack, range

While there is no word from Hyundai yet, the Ioniq 5 XRT is expected to make use of a dual-motor powertrain with all-wheel drive. The regular Ioniq 5 AWD puts out 325hp and 604Nm of peak torque. Powering the electric powertrain could be a 77.4kWh battery pack offering a range of about 418km. That said, it could also be offered with the Korean-spec Ioniq 5 facelift’s larger 84kWh battery with a higher range.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT launch timeline

Reports suggest that Hyundai could debut the Ioniq 5 XRT by the end of this year as a 2025 model year. The special version is expected to be launched in United States first, followed by a launch in Europe. Adding to the likes of Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 5 N Line, we expect the Ioniq 5 XRT to be yet another special edition version of the EV that will not make it to the Indian market anytime soon.
