Maruti e Vitara to take on Creta EV, BE 6e

Previously previewed as the eVX concept, the Suzuki e Vitara was revealed a few weeks ago in Milan, Italy. This born-electric SUV is Maruti’s first EV for India and will be taking on the likes of the Hyundai Creta EV (also launching on January 17), the MG ZS EV, the Tata Curvv, and the Mahindra BE 6 SUVs. The e Vitara is expected to be launched in India by March 2025, followed by a European launch around June next year.

The production-spec e Vitara looks quite similar to the eVX concept. However, there are some changes in terms of the sharper bits that have been transformed to more rounded edges; however, most of the concept’s looks have been retained in the production model.

As we reported earlier, the Maruti e Vitara (codenamed: YY8) is built on an all-new skateboard platform, which has been jointly developed with Toyota. Toyota also has its own iteration of the e Vitara, called the Urban Cruiser EV. Both models will be made in India and exported to multiple international markets.

The e Vitara is expected to come with two battery options: a 49kWh setup for the entry-level variants and a 61kWh option for the higher trims. Expect the 61kWh version to get an AWD setup as well, which Suzuki calls AllGrip-e.

The e Vitara will be sold via Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa premium outlets. More details on bookings, pricing, and delivery are expected to be revealed closer to its India debut. Apart from showing the e Vitara, Maruti Suzuki has also hinted at announcing its plans for accessible charging infrastructure across the country, with a network of chargers located at the brand’s sales and service outlets.
