Discounts and offers on the Maruti Suzuki Jimny are on the higher side once again for the rest of this month. The brand has issued a new circular to all its Nexa outlets that says the Jimny Alpha variant is now available with discounts of about Rs 1.5 lakh – up by a whopping Rs 1 lakh – while the Zeta continues with Rs 50,000 in discounts.

    1. Rs 1.5 lakh off only on top-spec Jimny
    2. Jimny sales below 1,500 mark for the Jan-May 2024 period
    3. Over 35,000 units exported overseas so far

    Maruti Jimny discounts: what’s new?

The Jimny, which caters to a niche audience, has been a slow-seller for Maruti since its market launch back in June 2023. The 4WD-only rugged SUV was offered with mouthwatering year-end discounts of around Rs 2 lakh in November-December 2023 to clear MY2023 stocks. Maruti slowly reduced the discounts on the Jimny from January this year and the SUV was last available with benefits of Rs 50,000 only, across all variants.

Sales of the Jimny have not been anything to write home about this month either. The SUV has been averaging around 266 units from January-May 2024. In addition, total sales of the Jimny in India have not crossed the 1,500-unit mark in the January to May period, Autocar India can confirm.

While the Jimny continues to be a niche product for Maruti in India, the made-in-India SUV, especially the five-door bodystyle, is being exported to multiple left- and right-hand drive markets in regions like Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. The Jimny is produced at the Gurgaon plant and Maruti has exported more than 35,000 units of the SUV so far (both 3- and 5-door models) with around 3,000 units exported in the month of May 2024 itself.

A quick check with multiple Nexa dealers also indicates an overall slowdown in the market, with other popular SUVs like the Grand Vitara and the Fronx being offered with higher discounts now, than what was announced at start of this month.
