Nissan X-Trail bookings
Nissan has announced that bookings for the new X-Trail SUV will begin on July 26 with a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. The price will be revealed on August 1, following which the deliveries will commence. Given that the X-Trail is arriving in India as a full import, it is expected to be priced above Rs 40 lakh, ex-showroom.
  1. X-Trail gets a 163hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine
  2. India-spec model gets a 7-seater configuration
  3. Will rival Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian

Nissan X-Trail powertrain, specs

The India-spec X-Trail is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that comes with a 12V mild-hybrid system, producing 163hp and 300Nm of torque. The powertrain will be paired with a shift-by-wire CVT auto gearbox that is said to have negligible rubberband effect. Notably, it features Nissan’s patented variable compression technology that alters the compression ratio to optimise either performance or fuel efficiency, depending on needs.

Nissan X-Trail colours, features and interior trim

Nissan will offer the X-Trail in three color options in India: Diamond Black, Pearl White, and Champagne Silver. All variants will come standard with 20-inch wheels.

The X-Trail features a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry, drive modes, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, cruise control, and push-button start. Safety kit on the India-spec X-Trail includes seven airbags, automatic wipers, ABS with EBD, traction control, limited-slip differential, hill-start assist, and front parking sensors.

India will only get the X-Trail in a 7-seater configuration. The second row has a 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding and reclining functions, while the third row gets 50/50 split-folding and reclining functions.

Nissan X-Trail expected price, rivals

Considering the SUV will be brought in as a CBU, the X-Trail's prices are expected to be in the Rs 40 lakh-45 lakh range. This would put it in direct contention with the Skoda Kodiaq (Rs 39.99 lakh) and the Jeep Meridian (Rs 29.49 lakh-39.83 lakh).
