Tata Motors is readying a major update for the popular Nexon compact SUV, camouflaged test mules of which have previously been spotted on our roads. The updated Nexon has been spied testing once again, but with a little less camouflage this time, thereby revealing a little more detail. The updated Nexon will see comprehensive cosmetic changes, major upgrades to the interior and equipment list and a new petrol motor under the hood as well.
- Nexon facelift expected to borrow design cues from Curvv SUV
- Interior likely to be updated with new 10.25-inch touchscreen
- Expected to get more powerful 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine
Tata Nexon facelift: major design overhaul
The previous sighting of the updated Nexon hinted at a completely overhauled design for the front and rear fascia. The new spy images now give us a clearer look at the grille, which has a new two-part design with diamond-shaped insets on the lower part (similar to the Curvv ICE concept); the overall shape is almost Lexus-like.
The upper portion of the grille can also be made out prominently even through the camouflage. A full width LED light bar is expected to sit atop the taller and flatter nose while the main headlamp cluster will be positioned in the bumper below – design traits directly linking it to the Curvv concepts. There’s also a deep indent below the light bar, which is where the Tata logo will be housed. The front bumper can also be expected to feature sharper cuts and creases, which have been borrowed from the Curvv concepts.
At the rear, too, the tail-lamps look completely new with a much sharper and sleeker design; a connecting element is also prominently visible through the camouflage, which will likely be an LED light bar. Meanwhile, the tailgate seems to have cleaner surfacing than the stepped design of the current model, and so does the rear bumper. The updated Nexon, however, remains relatively unchanged in profile, although there will be an all-new design for the alloy wheels.
Tata Nexon facelift: interior and equipment
While the interior has not been sighted so far, we can expect a completely reworked dashboard design, highlight of which will be a new 10.25-inch touchscreen. Tata Motors recently rolled out this new infotainment screen on the Harrier and Safari, and we know it will soon be available across the carmaker’s line-up. This, along with a new digital instrument cluster could be among the major additions to the Nexon facelift’s equipment list.
Tata Nexon facelift: powertrain options
There are major changes expected under the hood as well, chief among which will be a new-gen 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that Tata previewed with the Curvv ICE concept at the Auto Expo 2023. This engine produces 125hp and 225Nm – a fair upgrade over the Nexon’s current 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 120hp and 170Nm of torque. The 110hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine is expected to be carried forward as is. The Nexon is currently offered with manual and AMT gearboxes, but it remains to be seen if these change on the facelifted model with the new petrol motor.
Tata Nexon facelift: launch timeline and rivals
The market launch of the Nexon facelift is still sometime away, and is only expected sometime in 2024. It will be priced at a premium over the current model, which is priced between Rs 7.80 lakh-14.30 lakh. Upon launch, it will continue to rival the likes of the Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Maruti Brezza.
