The above car was bought by my father. We are now looking for a new car with a budget of up to ₹14 lakh. He lives in a village in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. All male family members are close to 6 feet tall. We are looking for safety, comfort, and low maintenance. We have shortlisted the Victoris, Creta, the new Venue, or any option from Mahindra.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris would be a natural upgrade from your Wagon R, especially since in remote areas, where Maruti’s widespread service is a significant advantage. The Victoris is reliable, well-built, and offers a smooth drive, which should satisfy your father.
The only possible deal breaker is the rear seat space, which is less spacious by mid-size SUV standards, especially in terms of headroom. This could be a problem for tall family members, especially if everyone is travelling together.
Please take a test drive and make a point of checking the cabin space before making the purchase. A slightly more spacious alternative is the Hyundai Creta, which is also a tried-and-tested model. The Hyundai Venue is too cramped, and the Mahindra options are larger but not as user-friendly.

Given your height, we feel a compact SUV will best suit your requirements. Among the models within your budget, the Kia Syros is the roomiest and will be very comfortable for your build. There's a lot of space at the back too, and the luggage room is also good.

I want to replace my 6-year-old BRV CVT with a mid-size SUV for daily use in Mumbai traffic and limited highway driving. My budget is ₹25 lakh. Fuel efficiency is not a priority, but I want a fuss-free, easy-to-maintain, and comfortable car. Please suggest between the Sierra Turbo AT, Seltos Turbo DCT, and Seltos NA CVT.
Since you’re already familiar with a CVT-equipped car, we recommend the fully loaded Hyundai Creta 1.5 CVT, which should comfortably fit within your budget. For city use, the combination of the smooth CVT gearbox and the refined 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine makes for an effortless and relaxed drive.
Out on the highway, the 1.5 CVT may not feel as punchy as a turbo-petrol when it comes to quick overtakes, but it still performs well enough for everyday use. It also remains the most efficient, proven, and low-maintenance powertrain among your shortlisted options.

I am currently using a 2017 Creta 1.6 diesel manual, and I love its pickup and overall driving feel. I have clocked 85,000 km so far, and my driving is mixed city and highway. I am now planning to buy a new automatic car. My requirements are good driving dynamics, a comfortable interior, and generous boot space because my kids are over 6 ft tall. I prefer diesel because I enjoy diesel performance on the highway, and cruise control is a must. Please advise. Thank you.
First things first, you should know that some of the punch that you like about your Hyundai Creta's diesel engines is missing on modern day diesel engines. Engine calibration to meet the latest BS6 emission norms has, sadly, taken away that mid-range kick older turbo-diesels were known for. However, there are still some great diesel-automatic options available today.
Among compact SUVs, the new Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO are worth a look. In the mid-sized SUV space, the new Tata Sierra, new Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta make for good, if unexciting, long-distance diesel SUVs.
If your budget allows, you should consider the upcoming Mahindra XUV 7XO in diesel-automatic form. The engine-gearbox will be carried over from the current XUV 700.
The 2.2-litre diesel engine is a smooth and strong unit and is really well complemented by the 6-speed automatic transmission. It is our pick of the diesel-automatic options.

Yes, the Honda Elevate CVT will be a reliable option, and the SUV also delivers a good driving experience with a well-sorted ride and handling balance and a spacious interior. However, refinement is not good, and the engine does sound very strained when pushed a bit for performance.
You could thus also consider the Hyundai Creta iVT (CVT), which is a very good all-rounder, spacious and comfy and very refined to drive. Its engine and gearbox combination is working very well to deliver good performance and refinement.

I currently drive a Kia Seltos HTE (base variant) and get around 8 to 9 kmpl in city conditions in Kolkata. Are there any hybrid options expected in the Seltos segment in the next 8 to 9 months? Will sedans like the Virtus or Verna get hybrid options? Are there plans for a Honda Elevate hybrid, MG Hector hybrid, or a Creta hybrid?
Unfortunately, there are no new hybrid midsize SUVs launching in the next 8-9 months; however, they will come later. The new Kia Seltos hybrid is coming, but not before late 2026 or early 2027, as Kia is working on localising the hybrid system to lower the price before the launch. The Honda Elevate will not receive a hybrid powertrain until its next generation, which is unlikely before 2028.
The Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia could eventually get hybrid technology, but that too is still a few years away. The Hyundai Verna is unlikely to receive a hybrid even with its upcoming facelift. The MG Hector Hybrid is in limbo and was not launched with the recent update, which proved to be just a minor facelift.
The Hyundai Creta will likely get a hybrid, but only when the next-generation model launches, likely around 2027. Tata and Mahindra are both said to be working on hybrid powertrains, but again, with launches only in the distant future.

My daily running is 60km (50% highway and 50% city). I am confused between buying a Hyundai Creta diesel or an EV. My budget is ₹20 to 22 lakh. Please suggest.
The Hyundai Creta diesel is a strong option for your needs. The 1.5 litre engine is refined, offers a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency, and suits highway heavy usage well. The Creta is also spacious and comfortable for long drives.
Within your budget, you could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid. It will be significantly more fuel efficient than the Hyundai car and is a very cost-efficient choice for your running. The only downside is the smaller boot, as the battery pack eats into luggage space.
An EV is another sensible and cost-effective option, especially if you have home charging. In your budget, you can look at the Vinfast VF6 or the Tata Nexon EV.

The Honda Elevate will fit your requirements well. It should prove to be reliable and dependable in the long run, and within your budget, you can opt for the VX variant, which comes fairly well-equipped. This Honda car also gets features, like a single-pane sunroof, wireless charger, 17-inch machine-finished alloy wheels, and more.
Another safe option is the Hyundai Creta. Even in the EX(O) variant, it offers a panoramic sunroof, but it does miss out on a few features compared to the Elevate.

Hi team, I really enjoy the Autocar weekly podcast; it’s very entertaining. Wanted to check on my new car purchase. I previously owned an Altroz DCA but sold it as it was ergonomically unsuitable for my height of 6 feet and wider build. I am now looking for a new car in the ₹15 to 20 lakh range, preferably an SUV, with a focus on safety, reliability, and ease of driving for city use and occasional highway runs. My daily city driving is around 70 km. Is there a manual that is light and easy to use, or should I opt for an automatic?
Given your requirements, we'd recommend the Hyundai Creta IVT or the new Kia Seltos IVT. Their CVT gearbox (IVT as the carmakers' brand them) is very smooth and works really well with the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Both models are known for their reliability and are easy to drive. Of the two, the Kia Seltos is newer (prices will be announced on January 2) and has its advantages in a roomier cabin, a more comfortable ride, and a few more features.
Among the manual gearbox options, models from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota have light clutches and easy-to-shift manual gearboxes. Even so, the experience won't be as convenient as a good automatic transmission.

I have always loved the driving dynamics and comfort of sedans and want to buy a new one with a budget of around ₹20 lakh. In India, there are very few sedan options that offer both ADAS and a 360-degree camera. Should I consider an SUV instead? If yes, which one?
If you are looking for a sedan, the Hyundai Verna is a good option. It is spacious, comfortable, and has a good ride quality. The 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy, and it comes with Level 2 ADAS features. However, it does not have a 360-degree parking camera.
If you are open to an SUV, the Hyundai Creta Turbo-DCT would be a good option. It has the same powertrain as the Verna but comes with the added practicality of an SUV, and it also gets a 360-degree camera and ADAS features.
